Offshore Wind Milestone: Revolution Wind Begins Supplying Clean Energy to the Grid

Rhode Island’s first utility-scale offshore wind project has officially begun delivering electricity to the New England grid.

Developed by Ørsted and Skyborn Renewables, the 704-megawatt project is located about 15 miles off the coast of Little Compton, Rhode Island and is expected to power hundreds of thousands of homes once fully operational.

The milestone comes despite repeated political efforts to halt the $5+ billion project — another sign that offshore wind is moving from plans to real clean energy on the grid. 🌊⚡

🚨 NJEL Joins Appeal to Protect Liberty State Park

The New Jersey Environmental Lobby (NJEL) has joined a coalition of organizations, led by the Friends of Liberty State Park and the New Jersey Conservation Foundation, appealing the NJDEP’s lease of public land at Liberty State Park to the Suntex Corporation for the construction of a massive boat storage facility.

For decades, NJEL has stood with the Friends of Liberty State Park to protect this treasured public space from privatization and commercialization.

Despite widespread opposition from the public, elected officials, and nonprofit organizations, the lease was approved by the State House Commission just five days before Governor Sherrill’s inauguration.

Organizations joining the appeal include NJEL, NY/NJ Baykeeper, New Jersey Highlands Coalition, Pinelands Preservation Alliance, NJ New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, and the Ramapough Culture and Land Foundation

🌿 Liberty State Park belongs to the public.

The court got it right — the offshore wind review process stays on track!

A federal judge ruled that the freeze on federal offshore wind permits had no lawful basis — clearing the way for clean-energy projects along the Atlantic coast to continue their regulatory progress.

This decision protects:

🌎 Climate progress

💼 Good-paying jobs

⚡ Clean-energy access for millions

Pollution doesn’t get a pause button — and neither should progress. ✔️

Your ACTION is Needed Again to protect Liberty Park from Another outrageous LSP Privatization Plan harming LSP’s priceless character, openness, purpose, and spirit from the DEP's new proposed 60 year Marina lease allowing a MASSIVE BOAT STORAGE WAREHOUSE for 500 BOAT DRY RACKS on 3 ACRES in a MULTI-STORY BUILDING in its boatyard along LSP's northern entrance along Zapp Drive!

Please ATTEND Major PUBLIC HEARING in person at the Terminal Or remotely - Thursday, 8/21 at 6:30pm to speak, support speakers!
REMOTE participation info for the Public Hearing, link to the Lease, background info, etc. is at https://dep.nj.gov/otpla/LLM-Lease/

The Friends of LSP's opposition statement to this very bad lease is at https://www.folsp.org/preservation/lspmarina_leasebattle.html

It's CRUCIAL for LSP supporters to Please EMAIL your PUBLIC COMMENT to [email protected] and use “Liberty Landing Marina Lease” in the Subject. You could email now through 9/18.

Please use this Public Comment to the DEP Or your own:

I oppose the proposed new DEP 60-year lease for the Suntex-owned LSP Marina because it gives Suntex the right to carry out its plan for a massive boat storage warehouse for 500 boat dry racks – a constant commercial visual assault in their boat yard along LSP’s northern entrance. I also oppose the 39-year extension to its lease’s remaining 21 years in this harmful lease for LSP.

THANKS! Your Voice is Essential! Please Say NO to this new attack on LSP's specialness by the multibillion dollar Texas corporation wanting to profit from one of the greatest locations in the world!

🚨 New Jersey Can’t Wait 🌊

Today, NJEL joined advocates, elected officials, and environmental leaders from across the state in Trenton to urge Governor Murphy to adopt the NJPACT REAL coastal flooding rules—without delay and without weakening them.

In the past three months alone, NJ has seen multiple flash flood warnings, 5+ inches of rain in some areas, and repeated road closures. What used to be “once-in-a-decade” storms are now happening regularly—and it’s only going to get worse.

We know the science. We know the risks. And we know the solution: adopt strong, science-based rules that protect people, property, and our future.

🌱 Preparing our communities today will save lives and prevent devastation tomorrow. Every dollar we invest now in climate resiliency can save 7 to 13 times more by avoiding damage to homes, businesses, and public health.

Governor Murphy, it’s time to lead.

✅ Pass the REAL rules.
✅ Protect New Jersey families.
✅ Build for the future we know is coming.

🌊 Empire Wind Project Resumes Construction! ⚡

After a temporary pause issued in April 2025, construction on the Empire Wind offshore wind project—located 15–30 miles off Long Island—is officially back on. The U.S. Department of the Interior has lifted the stop-work order following negotiations led by NY Governor Kathy Hochul, NYC Mayor Eric Adams, and federal officials. 🏛️

The project, developed by Equinor, is over 30% complete and will deliver 810 megawatts of clean energy—enough to power 500,000 homes. Commercial operation is planned for 2027. 🏡💨

This decision follows mounting pressure from states, including New Jersey, which recently joined over a dozen others in a lawsuit challenging the federal order that halted fully permitted clean energy projects.

Progress, people. 🙌
