June is National Dairy Month! 🥛

Today and every day, we recognize the hard work and dedication of dairy farmers who help feed our communities and keep agriculture strong. Thank you to the farm families who care for their animals, steward the land, and produce the dairy products enjoyed by millions every day.

Farmers in eligible counties can now get hands-on assistance with the Farmland Assessment Online Portal.

The New Jersey Division of Taxation is hosting in-person training sessions to help farm property owners navigate the portal and submit their annual farmland assessment applications. If your farm is located in one of the four counties participating this year (Mercer, Somerset, Cape May, and Camden), be sure to take advantage of these opportunities to learn more and get your questions answered.

See the attached flyers for dates, locations, and registration information.

The NJ NRCS State Technical Committee met Tuesday for its biannual meeting, bringing together representatives from NRCS county offices across the state, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, and the New Jersey Farm Bureau to receive updates on current initiatives and share recommendations for future conservation efforts.

As part of the spring meeting, committee members participated in a tour of Parsons Seafood, an aquaculture operation specializing in clam and oyster production. The annual tour provides an opportunity for committee members to visit agricultural operations and see firsthand how NRCS conservation programs are being implemented on working farms and aquaculture facilities.

During the visit, participants learned about oyster reef restoration projects and biofouling control practices in oyster production that have been supported through NRCS programs. The group then traveled to the Barnegat Oyster Collaborative for lunch and the committee meeting, where they also toured the organization’s oyster seed production operation.

These visits provide valuable insight into the diverse agricultural and aquaculture industries in New Jersey and the important role conservation programs play in supporting them.
