Each year, we strive to elevate the competitiveness of our league while continuing to enhance player development at every level. As our program has grown, we have listened closely to feedback from families and coaches regarding the current structure of an all Edgewood league format. Challenges such as limited player registration numbers and repeatedly facing the same opponents throughout the season have made it clear that adjustments are needed to better support long-term player growth and competition.

Beginning with the 2026–2027 girls basketball season, EYGBL will implement the following changes by grade level:

Pre K–2nd Grade:

We will continue to offer our traditional Edgewood vs. Edgewood league for our 1st and 2nd graders, with games played on Saturdays at EPS. This league will remain focused on providing a fun, competitive environment that emphasizes skill development and prepares players for future levels of play.

We will offer a pre K/K league next season. Giving them a 30 minute skills and drills practice followed by a 30 minute game each week. More details to come.

3rd-6th Grade:

EYGBL will transition away from the traditional Edgewood vs. Edgewood league format for grades 3–6. Our focus will shift toward providing higher-level competition to better prepare players for middle school basketball and beyond. If each grade level needs multiple teams the will be split by Navy, White and Gray teams based on registration numbers.

Teams will compete in the Dayton Metro League, which offers divisions that align well with varying levels of competition:

-One team per grade level will compete in Division 4 (comparable to a competitive recreational/travel-rec level).
-A second team will compete in Division 3.
-If a third team is needed within a grade level, that team will also compete within a Division 3 alignment (East or West division placement).
-Additional details regarding league structure, scheduling, and team formation will be communicated in the coming months.

Grade Level Directors:

EYGBL is currently seeking Grade Level Directors. These individuals will play a vital leadership role in overseeing and managing their respective grade levels while also serving as the head coach of the Navy team for that grade.

Responsibilities will include:

Head Coach the Navy team of each grade level
Coordinate gym practices
Available for weekends to monitor games
Manage the money boxes for their designated school/grade level
Opening and closing gyms on game days
Assisting with parent and player communication and conflict resolution
Maintaining regular communication with the EYGBL President and Vice President

Dear Edgewood Families,

The Edgewood Athletic Department is excited to announce Coach Tommy McGuire as the new Girls Varsity Basketball Coach at Edgewood High School.

Coach McGuire brings with him a wealth of knowledge, having over 15 years of basketball coaching experience including, most recently, serving as the Varsity Girls Head Coach at Madison High School.

Coach McGuire’s long history with basketball shows true dedication to the sport and
extends beyond just his professional career. As a player, Coach McGuire was a three-year varsity starter at Madison, graduating in 2006, and continued his playing career at NAIA Cincinnati Christian University for 4 years.

Athletic Director Scott Clemmons stated, “His knowledge of the game, how to build a
program from K-12, and his relentless passion for the game is what makes Coach McGuire a great fit for Edgewood. He has competed in the SWBL as a player, an assistant coach, and a head coach, So he understands what it will take to get the Edgewood Girls Basketball program to the next level in the SWBL.”

Coach McGuire shared with us, “I am very excited to be the next Varsity Girls Basketball
Coach at Edgewood HS. Culture has always been a top priority for my program and we
are here not only to develop basketball players but more importantly, to develop well rounded young adults into our future leaders. We recognize the long standing tradition at Edgewood and my staff and I are excited and thankful for the opportunity to join the
Edgewood community. We are ready to get to work.”

We welcome Coach McGuire to the Edgewood family and look forward to seeing how
the program grows and develops under his dedicated leadership

We want to hear from you!

Now that we have officially wrapped up our season by celebrating with our banquet. We cannot thank you all enough for another successful season. The combined efforts from you all contributes to what makes this organization what it is.

We strive to not only provide a safe environment, but a place for our girls youth basketball players to come and learn the sport and develop their skills in a competitive environment without too much pressure. Hopefully some of them made some new friends and everyone had fun.

Our goal is to improve annually as we continue to grow this program. With growth, you need feedback. We would love for each of you to take just a few moments to take our end of year survey so we can continue to drive improvements and keep youth girls basketball in Edgewood going strong.

**We ask that no extra siblings come to this event. With the rental of the bowling alley we only get enough lanes and pizza for the girls who participated in the league. ***

Dear EYGBL families,

We as a program can’t send you enough gratitude than what we experienced throughout the season. If you have been following along on this journey with us the last 3 or 4 years we hope you’ve seen the growth.

Watching the level of play in our rec divisions especially in our 1/2 grade division. Watching these girls understand basketball at a young age and excel at it shows what we are trying to do is working. We watched 10 basketball games this weekend all were played with heart. All three championship games today were last second wins. Absolutely amazing!!

With a strong youth program comes we hope a stronger varsity program in a few years. We have the passion and the love for the game. We hope you have an amazing off season and we are looking forward to next winter!!!
