Shanah Tovah, and wishing a happy new year to all who celebrate Rosh Hashanah.

Today we join in mourning the lives lost in the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001. Some of us are old enough to carry personal memories of that day. Some of us remember through the stories of family and friends, and the lasting impact that the attacks left on our community. All of us join in our commitment to remember the victims of that day, and the heroes who put their lives on the line and ran towards danger to save others.

May we never forget.

We were so deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ed Gittens.

Ed was someone many of us looked up to. He spent his life working every day to make his community, and our state, a better place. He represented the best of our Democratic values: service to others, sticking up for the underdog, and amplifying the voices of those who too often go unheard.

Ed was especially generous in sharing his time and his energy with the Mercer County Young Dems. When we rebooted the organization in 2019 he agreed to serve on our advisory board. He was a very busy man, but never too busy to listen and offer advice and support. We benefited immensely from his knowledge and his hard-won wisdom.

Our thoughts are with Ed's family during this time, and all those who loved him. That includes Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson, Ed's partner in so much meaningful work over the past eight years. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, and in the laws that he helped to write and to pass, laws which will continue to make our state a better, and more just, place for so many people for years to come.

Ed Gittens, the highly regarded chief of staff to Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson (D-Trenton), died on August 24. He was 63. Gittens became chief
