With Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, we stand alongside a true friend of labor โ€” someone who continues to fight for all our railroad brothers and sisters, defending working families, union jobs, and the rights of organized labor every step of the way. ๐Ÿš‚โœŠ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Late Monday evening, the coalition of five labor unions, including BLET, ended their 3-day strike at Long Island Rail Road after coming to terms on a tentative contract. The strike began just after midnight on Saturday, May 16.

Kevin Sexton, Vice President of the BLET (pictured, far left):

โ€œBLET Teamsters and our coalition brothers and sisters made countless sacrifices as we bargained in good faith for a new agreement. After years of negotiations, weโ€™ve finally received an agreement that reflects the value our members bring to this railroad.โ€

โ€œIt is heartbreaking that the MTA made our communities and our passengers pay the price for their mismanagement. We thank the people of New York for their patience and support.โ€

The BLE-T New Jersey State Legislative Board Chairman Ray Vigil met with Commissioner Brendan Gill โ€” a great friend of labor whose district includes the 3rd-busiest commuter rail system in North America.
Heโ€™s running in the Special Election for NJโ€™s 11th District and is committed to standing with our railroad brothers and sisters with solid leadership and strong support for labor.

Great progress today.
S3389 โ€” which advances two-person crew requirements, wayside defect detector standards, and an 8,500-foot train length limit โ€” is now prepared to advance from the Budget & Appropriations Committee to the Senate floor for a full vote.

This legislation reflects a clear and responsible commitment to public safety, stronger rail operations, and safer communities throughout New Jersey.

I extend my sincere appreciation to all legislators, stakeholders, and supporters who have contributed to this important step.
Let us continue working together as this bill moves forward.
