A huge thank you to Andrew and Anne from for their incredibly generous donation of K9 medical kits to Capital K-9 Association! 🐾

These kits will be going directly to Police K9 teams and will help make sure handlers have important medical supplies available when they need them most.

We’re incredibly grateful to Andrew and Anne for supporting our mission and helping us continue to protect the K9s who protect our communities. It means a lot to have good people and businesses in our corner who genuinely care about these dogs and the people who work beside them.

🚔 If you know a Police K9 team that is in need of a K9 medical kit, please reach out to us or tag their department below. We want to make sure these kits get into the hands of teams that can put them to good use.

Thank you again, Andrew, Anne, and Good Dog Pet Training! 🐕‍🦺

Also, thank you to K9 Pepper and K9 Duco for modeling for our post!

Seventeen minutes.

That is how long the country thought it was an accident.

8:46 to 9:03.

I was seventeen, a senior in high school. By the time it came over the PA system, both towers had been hit.

You know what a normal school announcement sounds like. This was not that.

We went out for gym class anyway because nobody knew what else to do. A field full of kids, barely talking, all thinking the same thing.

This is not real.

I had family working in New York, close to the site. I spent that day not knowing.

Inside those seventeen minutes, Port Authority Police Lt. David Lim put his K9 partner in a kennel under the South Tower and told him, "I'll be back for you."

Sirius was a four-year-old yellow Lab who checked trucks for explosives at the World Trade Center. Lim got trapped in a stairwell in the North Tower and climbed out hours later to find the South Tower gone.

Sirius was the only working dog killed that day.
That winter, they carried him out under a full honor guard, the way you carry out an officer.

One dog is a small thing on a day this size. But it is the door I walk through every year.

Behind it are the nearly 3,000 people who did not come home, the families still carrying it, and everyone who spent the next nine months on that pile and is still paying for it.

And the more than 300 dogs who worked Ground Zero.

They were trained to find living people. When the living stopped turning up, handlers had rescue workers climb down into the rubble and lie still, so a dog could find someone alive and feel like it had done its job.

Those dogs did not know the weight of history. They knew their handler, their training, and that there was work in front of them.

Twenty-five years later, we keep saying the names out loud. The people, the responders, and the dogs.

Never Forget.
