It’s budget day in New Jersey and we have convened the state’s leading progressive advocates to discuss crucial cost saving measures which can free up money in the state budget while addressing the state’s healthcare affordability crisis.

The New York Coalition for Affordable Hospitals unites unions, advocates, and community organizations against unaffordable and unreasonable healthcare costs.

Earlier this month, coalition members from New York Immigration Coalition, Small Business Majority, 32BJ Health Fund, Families USA, and Health Care for All New York testified before the Joint Health Committee in favor of the Fair Pricing Act.

The Fair Pricing Act, sponsored by Senator Liz Krueger and Assemblymember Chantel Jackson, ensures that routine care remains a routine cost, putting dollars back in patient’s pockets. These patient protections must be in the One House Budget. We need the Fair Pricing Act now! New York can’t afford to wait.

The Fair Pricing Act ensures that patients pay the same price for routine, outpatient care-whether it happens in a doctor’s office or a hospital outpatient department (HOPDs). On average, HOPDs charge 4x more for the procedures like flu shots, x-rays, and mammograms, and the rise of hospital consolidation has made it more difficult for patients to find independent care options.
