Urgent Homeless Help Is Avaliable

It's 10 degrees out (feels like -1) - It's only going to get colder over night. There are people sleeping outside right now! You can help in a couple of ways.

1) The Westland police will check on any homeless individual they get a call about or see while they are on patrol. If you see someone in need (or if you yourself are struggling with homelessness) you can contact the Westland Police Department at 734-722-9600 and ask in for a community police officer for further info. The Garden City Police will check on anyone too, call them at (734) 793-1700. Wayne Police 734-721-1414. Emergencies, call 911.

2) The Lighthouse on Palmer Road has an overnight Shelter. Checkin time we believe is around 8pm. They are an emergency shelter dedicated those who need some where to stay over night. They are located at 34033 Pamer Road at Full Gospel Church. Use east driveway.

Wayne County has opened warming shelters for individuals and families facing homelessness, as well as those without heat. If you encounter someone experiencing homelessness in freezing conditions in Wayne County, please call 2-1-1 to get connected with emergency housing, shelters, and warming centers. Alternatively, you can reach the City of Detroit's 24/7 homelessness helpline at (866) 313-2520. These resources can provide immediate assistance and support services to those in need.

The City of St. Clair Shores Family Rental Program is accepting applications for an available rental home. Applicantsโ€™ incomes must be in accordance with the current HUD Family Size and Income Guidelines by being low to moderate income.

Applications will be accepted from January 1, 2026, at 8:00 am to January 30,2026, at 4:00 P.M. All applications must be returned and completed to be considered for the rental unit. Only completed applications will be considered. All required documents must be included with the application. All completed applications must be submitted to the City of St. Clair Shores Community Development Department, located in City Hall at 27600 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores, MI 48081.

This is a federally funded program. Rent is not subsidized by HUD.
