🍂 The Fun Doesn’t Stop at BrickWays!

While the end of summer means we’re wrapping up many of our main summer activities, there is still plenty happening at BrickWays! We’re looking forward to keeping the momentum going throughout the fall and winter.

Here’s what’s still on the calendar:

⛳ Weekly Disc Golf Club
Our weekly club will continue, giving residents a chance to get outside, have fun, and enjoy some friendly competition.

🏆 Disc Golf Club End-of-Year Tournament
We’ll cap off another great season with a special end-of-year tournament!

🎱 Bingo Night is Back!
A big thank-you to Lori Conard, one of our amazing volunteers, for bringing Bingo Night back to BrickWays. We’re excited to get everyone together for some fun, laughs, and weekly prizes.

🏈 Lions Game Day Party
We’ll be kicking off the Detroit Lions season with a BrickWays Game Day Party! Come cheer on the Lions and enjoy the game together for week 1!

🎃 Halloween Party
Fall means it’s time for one of our biggest parties of the year! Costumes, games, food, and plenty of fun are in store.

🎄 Christmas Party
And, of course, we’ll finish out the year with our annual Christmas celebration!

☀️🚤 Larsen Camp 2026! 🏕️🔥

On July 18th & 19th, we celebrated what has become one of the biggest — and without a doubt the most beloved — events of the year for our residents: our annual boating, sandbar & camping weekend at Boo and Lori’s! With Boo and Lori retiring at the end of last year, we weren’t sure this tradition would continue. But they not only graciously welcomed everyone back — they were excited to do it! The anticipation of seeing them again was incredible. After so many years together, Boo and Lori have built a truly special relationship with our residents, and having them back made this weekend mean that much more. ❤️

We hit the sandbar on Lake Missaukee for hot dogs, swimming, football, frisbee and plenty of sunshine — and then Sue made a surprise appearance on the jet ski to give our more adventurous residents some wild rides! With Sue having retired less than a month earlier, having Sue, Bob, and Lori all together again was incredibly special. Back at the house, the fun kept going with smash burgers, co****le, axe throwing, golf cart rides, hot tubbing, a fire, a movie and popcorn, and our backyard campground — complete with customized signs for each resident’s assigned tent! 🏕️🍿🔥

A weekend like this takes a lot of people to make happen. A huge thank you to Bob and Lori for opening their home and continuing a tradition our residents look forward to all year, to Sue for coming back and making the day even more memorable, Kelly Siler, Josh Gillow, Brooke Horton, and Brendan Larsen for donating your time and pontoon boats, and to Michele, Rose, and Abe for helping get everyone there. A HUGE shoutout to GTI for stepping in when our rental plans fell through and providing a 12-passenger van for the day, saving the day! Most of all, thank you to everyone who helped make another unforgettable weekend possible. These relationships don't end with retirement, and seeing that firsthand made this year's trip one we'll remember for a long time. ❤️

⚾🎆 BrickWays Night at the Pit Spitters! 🎆⚾

On July 31st, BrickWays headed out to the Traverse City Pit Spitters game, and it ended up being one of those nights that had a little bit of everything — a close game, music, fireworks, and a first pitch from Abe!

The Pit Spitters beat the Kingfish 5–4 in a thriller, and our residents had a great night taking it all in. Brian is pictured rocking out to the music while fireworks lit up the sky.

This has become one of our favorite annual events, and it is easy to see why. It gives our residents a chance to be part of a big community night, enjoy the ballpark, cheer together, and make memories that stick.

A huge thank-you to everyone who helps make outings like this possible. BrickWays loves showing up in the community — and this night was a home run. ⚾🔥

Kelley Street irrigation update! 💧🌱

Big progress at Kelley Street this week. The new sprinkler system is in, grass seed is down, and the front yard is officially in its comeback era.
This project also included removing two trees and grinding out the stumps, which opened up the yard and made room for a much cleaner look. A lot of digging, hauling, raking, trenching, and cleanup went into this one.

Huge shoutout to Mitchell, Warner, and Ray for putting in the work. Beautiful front yard loading… ⏳🏡

🥏 Week 9 of Disc Golf took us to Kingsley!
The crew hit the course for another solid week of disc golf, and by now this group is really finding its rhythm. Every week brings a little more confidence, better throws, more walking, more laughs, and more time spent together outside.
This club has turned into exactly what we hoped it would be — a reason to get moving, enjoy some fresh air, and build friendships through something fun and low-pressure.

Mark’s House is summer-ready! ☀️🔥
The lawn is looking great, and the guys have a brand-new patio and fire pit to enjoy this year. It’s the perfect setup for cookouts, fresh air, good food, and summer nights around the fire.
We can’t wait to see the guys put this backyard to good use! 🍔🌭🔥

🌼 Kelley Street Garden Project in Progress! 🌿
Big things are happening at Kelley Street! The garden areas are being refreshed with new flowers, and a brand-new irrigation system is going in this week to help everything take root and thrive.
We’re excited to watch this project come together — stay tuned for the finished look! 🏡🌸

Each year, it’s exciting to see the gardens at our Fern Street home come back to life with fresh color, healthy plants, and the kind of care that makes the whole property feel warm and welcoming.

🥏 Another Week of Disc Golf in the Books!
Our BrickWays Disc Golf Club continues to grow, and we are excited to see a core group of residents showing up almost every week. Tyke, Abe, Chelsea, Matt, Steven, and Tony have helped make this club a consistent and meaningful part of our summer activities.
Disc golf has been a great opportunity to exercise, enjoy nature, and spend time with others. Most importantly, it gives residents another way to build friendships and feel connected within our community.

We are proud to keep creating activities that support physical health, mental health, community inclusion, and personal growth. 🌲🥏

🦅 BrickWays 4th of July! 🦅

This year, 12 BrickWays residents joined us for our annual 4th of July celebration — an event that has continued to grow for three straight years.

The fireworks show was one to remember, featuring not only an incredible fireworks display, but also a drone show and a plane loaded with fireworks in recognition of the 🍒100th National Cherry Festival🍒 and 🇺🇸America’s 250th.🇺🇸 It was truly a show you couldn’t miss.

For many of our residents, experiences like this are only possible because of the generosity of our BrickWays donors and the dedication of our staff. We are so proud to be able to provide opportunities that bring residents into the heart of the community.

As our founder, Mary Jean Brick, said:

“Our residents should be a part of the community, not apart from it.”
