Children do not simply need information. They need connection, encouragement, belonging, and love.

This International Children's Day, we invite you to watch When I Slow Down and reflect on the power of slowing down long enough to truly see, hear, and understand the children in our lives.

Friday Feel-Good Moment

As we head into the weekend, here’s a little reminder we all need…

This beautiful talk by Thenzin Gyatso invites us to choose kindness, empathy, and connection — recognising that we are all part of one human family.

At STEPi, this is at the heart of everything we do. Through our Parenting with Love and Teaching with Love work, we are guided by Ubuntu:
I am because we are.

Every child. Every person. Every story matters — no matter their background, race, or circumstance.

Take a few minutes today to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what really matters.

We often think of happiness as something we need to find — but what if it’s something we create?

In this insightful TEDx talk, Katarina Blom reminds us that happiness is not a passive state, but a result of our daily actions. The way we build relationships, practise gratitude and develop healthy habits shapes our well-being over time. For educators, parents and leaders, this shifts the focus from “teaching happiness” to modelling and creating it through consistent, intentional action.

At STEPi, this resonates deeply with our belief that what we do — in classrooms, homes and communities — shapes how children grow, learn and experience the world.

Happy World Book Day! 📚

Here’s a little snapshot of what we got up to in schools as we celebrated the joy of books, reading and story. There is something so powerful about a child owning a book of their own — a book to hold, revisit, treasure and grow with. Book ownership matters because it helps children build confidence, connection, curiosity and a lifelong love of reading.

At STEPi, we believe every child deserves access to stories that open hearts, grow minds and expand possibility.

On this day in 1983, literary history was rewritten forever. Alice Walker became the first Black woman to receive the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, earning this groundbreaking recognition for her transformative novel The Color Purple. This wasn't just an award ceremony moment—it was a seismic shift that challenged who could be celebrated in America's most prestigious literary circles.

The Color Purple transcended its original pages to become a cultural phenomenon. Steven Spielberg brought Walker's vision to the silver screen, creating an acclaimed film that introduced these powerful stories to millions worldwide. The narrative later found new life as a Broadway musical, proving that great storytelling knows no boundaries. Each adaptation carried forward the novel's unflinching examination of systemic oppression and personal resilience.

But Walker's achievement runs deeper than accolades and adaptations. Her fearless exploration of race, gender, and sexuality in the American South created space for conversations that society often avoided. The Color Purple gave voice to experiences that had been marginalized and silenced, particularly those of Black women navigating intersecting forms of discrimination. Today, nearly four decades later, Walker's work continues inspiring new generations of writers and readers to tell their truths boldly. Her Pulitzer victory didn't just recognize exceptional literature—it opened doors that had been locked for far too long, proving that every story deserves to be heard and honored.
