Whooping cough (pertussis) is a highly contagious illness that spreads easily through coughing, sneezing, and close contact—especially in schools, households, and community settings.

It causes severe, uncontrollable coughing fits that often end in a high-pitched "whoop" sound and can last for weeks or months.

It is most dangerous for infants, who may not "whoop" but may gag, gasp, or suffer from breathing pauses (apnea).

Who should get the Tdap vaccine? (check with your care team)

* Children (DTaP series starting in infancy)
* Preteens (11–12 years old booster)
* Adults (at least one Tdap, then boosters every 10 years)
* Pregnant women (each pregnancy)
* Anyone around babies

Always consult your personal healthcare provider or a licensed medical professional for advice specific to your health condition or your child’s needs.
