Welcome Short Legs! Look at how handsome this boy is!!

This is the 14 year old (he may be younger!) dachshund we posted about last week. New fosters Amelia and Andre picked him up this weekend and gave him a glow up at the groomers. Not sure if his name, "Short Legs", came from the shelter or if it was his name all his life.

HIs intake paperwork says Confiscation/Abandonment. :-( He will need a dental before being made adoptable .

The best laid plans.

This darling is Skye at the vet office this morning. She was just at the vet's on Tuesday (along with sweet Ozzie.) She was in for a hernia repair. On Wednesday, we noticed the hernia bulge, was back, but in another location! Yep, she has another hernia in the same general area.

She is now having a second operation and our afternoon has been blown. (We didn't plan on today being a 4 hrs to/from/at the vet's day. ) We hope this is it for "Whack A Mole, the Hernia Version"

Skye will be adoptable soon, but we will not be responding to early inquiries. We have way too much we need to focus on that is immediate. Watch our website scdr.org. We post our dogs as soon as they are available.

UPDATE: our first issue (getting a dog from Medford)is basically solved! A supporter is driving back to Chico from Oregon on Monday. Our Chico foster home can then at least short term foster while we figure out next steps. We love when transport does not put an additional car on the road!!

Still need a solid foster offer for the senior male currently in Sacramento

YOUR SUGGESTIONS?
We have a sweet girl (Dog A)that we would like to get from Medford, Oregon to the SF Bay area. It's a transport that makes our head spin at the thought. We don't suppose one of you has some magic answer?

SUPER SENIOR
The pictured dog (Dog B)is 14 years old. Shelter has asked us to take him. We are bursting at the seams right now. Any one in the Sacto area want to foster him? (Fair warning- while seniors age 8-12 fly off the shelf, adoption interest is usually low for dogs age 13 and up so you may have him for awhile. However, he might be more popular than typical because he is a long hair.)

And there are 3 super senior females that may also soon need rescuing. Sigh.

RESPONSIVENESS
We've really increased the number of dogs we are adopting out but we have not really increased the number of our volunteers. And one of our main fosters/admins is on vacation for 10 days. Added to that we currently have 4 adoptable dogs and a few more that will be posted soon. This means we will likely be getting a large number of applications. Please be aware that it may take longer to hear from us than normal.

BY POPULAR DEMAND - OZZIE!

We had many people message, email and text us saying they would take care of the removal of Ozzie's wire (from his jaw) if we would let them adopt now. We thought about it and decided it was in Ozzie's best interest to be in his forever home over the next two months rather than settling in in a temporary home.

Our charmer is now posted at https://scdr.org/adopt-norcal The link to the online adoption application is right below his bio. If you inquired about him earlier and you are serious, please fill out the application.
HE WILL NEED THE WIRE REMOVED IN MID TO LATE AUGUST!

In only 24 hours, Ozzie is much more engaged in life. He is also eating up a storm!

UPDATE: Due to all the requests to adopt our sweet Oz and to allow him to settle into his forever home rather than his foster home, we have decided to make Ozzie adoptable. Check him out at https://scdr.org/adopt-norcal The application link is beneath his bio.

We occasionally reach out about dachshunds posted on Craigslist. We often find owners that are thrilled to have rescue's assistance in rehoming.

Ozzie was one such dog. When we picked him up, we learned that he was cryptorchid. Both testicles were not just undescended, but they were high up in his abdomen. This increases a dog's chance of getting cancer, so it is important they be removed. Because this was a complicated case, we had to do the surgery at a full service vet. At the last minute this morning, we impulsively asked for an add on dental so that we could more quickly make Ozzie adoptable. (Otherwise he had to wait until the end of August for his scheduled more affordable dental appointment). His teeth looked pretty good so we all (Vet included) thought this would be easy.

Once they had him under anesthesia, they discovered he had a severe fracture/break in the jaw . (Calcification showed this happened months ago and not on rescue's watch! ) Turns out that tiny Ozzie is thin because eating hurts! He is low energy and quiet because he has been in pain! We were asked if we wanted to have them wire his jaw to fix the problem. Was there any answer other than yes?

So while we started the day thinking we could make Ozzie adoptable soon, now he has to wait for his jaw to heal. Then he will go under anesthesia again to remove the wire.

While we are sharing this peek at him, we are not yet ready to discuss his forever home. We had been joking that he was hardly more work than a stuffed toy, not realizing that we were only seeing a shadow of the real Ozzie. Now we need to learn who he is when he is pain free.

Approximately 7 yr old Colette is the final adoptable dog of the 8 dogs we took in from a breeder confiscation. Like the others, she is stunning! She is also extremely sweet, but she is the shyest of the group. She is fostered in Chico, CA

To read what kind of home she needs, go to https://scdr.org/adopt-norcal and read her bio. If this matches you, you will find the online application link below the bio (long black box titled "Fill out an adoption application for Colette"). If you already have an application on file and you want us to consider you for Colette, please email us at [email protected]
