The Tracy Leadership Club is now part of Tracy Toastmasters club we meets every Monday online 7pm and Tuesday from 12:05 to 12:55 at Tracy City Hall, upstairs in room #203 or online. How does it

work?

-The environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced program allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment.

-Each time you give a prepared speech, a constructive evaluator will point out strengths and suggest improvements.

-You'll also refine your impromptu speaking skills, helping you to think on your feet and communicate more effectively! Most of our Toastmasters meetings are composed of approximately 10-15 people who meet weekly for 50 minutes. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian. There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved.

Are you one of those that gets the jitters before you speak in a meeting? Or go through an interview? Much like the Toastmaster in this article, I have a similar background in doing the perfomring arts, but it only helped onstage!

I was outgoing with people I knew and in classes as a substitute teacher, but that was only situational. My voice still quivered in groups of people where I had to speak. And eye contact? Forget that! I would briefly catch their eye and be on to the next person, still with that ever wavery voice!

Read on to see how this performer used Toastmasters to calm her nerves, and I can share the same victory with you. I have gone above and beyond the self-imposed restraints, and am here to tell you, "It's possible to banish the nerves!"
