Week 2 of Aleph! As we continued learning about Bereishis, we explored the incredible world Hashem created and learned that Hashem is constantly creating the world anew every single moment. This means that every flower, every sunset, and every little detail around us is here because Hashem wants it to be! We made our own Needohs to help us remember this special message: Hashem is always here, taking care of us, and we can trust that we are in His hands. We also kicked off our Aleph Champ program this week, and we're so excited to watch our students move up and celebrate their milestones!

Bubby's Recipe Box!
Classic Cholent (Chamim) - Beef Stew

Ingredients:

2 yellow onions chopped
2 small potatoes cubed
2 pounds beef stew meat cubed
2-4 marrow bones optional
1 cup pearl barley
1/2 cup kidney beans
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
2 tablespoons honey
1 kishka optional
3-4 cups of water
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Place the onions and potatoes in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Top with the beef stew meat and marrow bones. Sprinkle the meat with salt and pepper. Add the barley and kidney beans, then sprinkle on the paprika, cumin, turmeric and chili powder.
Drizzle the top of the cholent with honey, top with the kishka, then pour the water over the top to cover the beans. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat overnight, or for at least 8 hours.

Book of the Week!

Life lessons from over 100 professions, Learning on the Job, gives profound insight into our daily life. Included are first-hand accounts of the Rebbe's guidance to business people.

Interspersed between the lessons are stories of the Rebbe’s encounters with a variety of business people. In one, philanthropist Eduardo Elsztain, chairman of the large Argentinian investment company IRSA, asked the Rebbe if he should invest in stocks. “I am not so happy about investing money in the stock market,” the Rebbe told him. “The stock market does not leave a person with peace of mind. It disturbs you from sleeping properly.”

The Rebbe advised Elsztain to transfer his money slowly out of stocks into other investments. “It is not safe. It is better if you invest in something that is safe,” the Rebbe said. “Investing in another venture will be good for you.”

We had an awesome first day of Hebrew School!

Today, we kicked off our new Bereishis curriculum, “Story of My Life!” and began exploring the Torah from the very beginning!

We learned how the Torah is our guide for life, connecting us to Hashem and teaching us how to live in the best way possible. We explored the five books of the Torah and began our journey into the Aleph - Bet!

To bring it all to life, we got creative and built our very own beautiful Torah libraries!

We’re so excited for a year filled with Jewish learning, hands-on activities, creativity, and FUN as we help our students build a strong connection to their Jewish heritage!
