The lamb is one example.

💚 A place like Prospect Hill is cared for by a community.

When you walk through the cemetery, you see peaceful paths, mature trees, historic monuments, open green space, and generations of Towson history.
What you may not see are all the people behind it.

Volunteers who give their time. Board members and staff who help guide its care. Donors and supporters who provide resources. Families, visitors, and community members who continue to value the history and stories preserved here.

🌸 Not every summer blooms the same way.

The crape myrtles at Prospect Hill typically bring a vibrant burst of color to the cemetery each summer. This year, following a particularly dry stretch, their blooms have been much more subdued.

That difference is part of what makes Prospect Hill a living landscape. Its trees and flowers respond to rainfall, temperature, and the natural rhythm of each season—and no two years look exactly alike.

Even with fewer blossoms, the crape myrtles remain a beautiful part of the cemetery’s summer landscape, bringing touches of color among the historic monuments and mature trees.

Prospect Hill is always changing, and there is always something new to notice.

🌳 One of Towson's largest GREEN spaces is also one of its most historic.

On World Nature Conservation Day, we're reminded that Prospect Hill Cemetery preserves far more than history.

Its mature trees provide shade and habitat for birds and other wildlife. Its open green spaces offer a peaceful place to walk, reflect, and reconnect with nature. For more than 130 years, these historic grounds have been cared for so both nature and history can thrive together.

Protecting places like Prospect Hill means preserving the stories of our community while also caring for one of Towson's beautiful green spaces.

History and nature have always been part of Prospect Hill's story—and we hope they'll continue to be for generations to come. 💚

💜 Sometimes, love is remembered in the smallest ways.

Recently, someone from the Prospect Hill Cemetery team noticed these hand-painted stones resting beside two graves.

We don't know who painted them.

We don't know who placed them there.

But we do know this: Someone wanted their loved ones to know they were still being thought of.

At Prospect Hill, we see reminders like these every day. Flowers. Flags. Notes. Small keepsakes.

Each one is a quiet expression of love that continues long after a final goodbye.

These painted stones remind us that remembrance doesn't have to be grand to be meaningful.

🇺🇸 Celebrate America's 250th Anniversary with a Visit to Local History

As Towson comes together to celebrate Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding, take a few extra minutes to visit a remarkable piece of American history right here at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Just a short walk or drive from the Towson Fourth of July Parade, you'll find the grave of John Hillen (1761–1840)—the Towson area's only documented American Revolutionary War veteran. As a young drummer boy, he served during the fight for our nation's independence.

During this milestone anniversary, visitors can pay their respects at his gravesite, where the Sons of the American Revolution have placed a commemorative medallion recognizing his Revolutionary War service.

History isn't only found in textbooks—it lives in the places where those who shaped our nation are remembered. Places like Prospect Hill Cemetery help preserve those stories and connect us to the people who made our freedoms possible.
