City catch was a success. Thanks to Baltimore City Recreation and Parks for organizing a record number of kids. Thanks to our volunteers who patiently taught the kids fishing and untangled many knots and netted some trout. Lastly thanks to MD Department of Natural Resources’s Kids Rodeo program for stocking trout. All kids took home rods and dreams of fishing again

I attended the Lower Jones Falls planning meeting on the 7th- it was a great place to think about the future of the Jones facilitated by Biohabitats- very worthwhile and well run. There are 2 more sessions and we are looking for more folks to attend. The middle and upper sections have wild brown trout populations. Pick one- Upper Feb 21st @1-4p @ Irvine Nature Center or Middle the 2/28 @ 1-4p @ Park School. We hope you can attend one of these meetings. Thanks Friends of The Jones Falls

Come lend your voice and help shape the future of the Jones Falls watershed at the Lower Jones Falls & Inner Harbor Stakeholder Meeting!

This community-led strategic plan is calling on residents, businesses, community groups, and anyone with a stake in the Jones Falls and its connected tributaries to come together and discuss water quality, biodiversity, recreation, land use, and culture. We hope you’ll join Biohabitats, Friends of The Jones Falls , and Central Baltimore Partnership at Maryland Institute College of Art's Brown Center on February 7th to help imagine a brighter future for our watershed.

Visit jonesfallswatershed.org for more information on this event and the other major stakeholder meetings for each of the three reaches that represent the entirety of the Jones Falls Watershed.

For those of you who missed our packed meeting at the Turtle- Mark Staley, Central Region Freshwater Fisheries Manager, presented MD DNR's trout survey data from fall 2025 at their 3 monitoring stations.

Young of the year, baby trout less than 3" trout were up this year. Good NEWS as we had a good spawing year for the Gunpowder despite off and on drought conditions.

Adult trout we are on average- with Falls station being close to the 5 year average, Masemore station slightly below and Bluemont station slightly above. MD DNR Fisheries will be sampling the same sites this fall.

NEW: DNR will be conducting a creel survey along the Gunpowder Falls Trout waters to gauge angler behavior and raise awareness of this treasured resource.

A Big Thanks for their monitoring and leadership in keeping our trout healthy.
