HELLO!
I am writing to you all, members, former members, and friends of the Baltimore Bird Fanciers, to see if there is any interest in starting up the club again in some sort of a capacity.
After the shut down and situation over the past two years, we have not been able to meet. Since there is still an issue, though not to the extent of the original pandemic, I am hoping to attempt to have meetings going forward. I know a few others have expressed interest as well. I am hoping to get a reply from each of you as soon as possible to see if this is something feasible. Please also reply if you are NOT INTERESTED so I know the opinion of those I have contacted.
My reason for asking at this time is that, after the death of our treasurer Ray Reter, we have just this week been notified of the need to renew our insurance policy that is due THIS WEEK. I am willing to renew if there is a plan to begin meeting again.
One of the primary situations would be WHERE to meet. I believe initially, we might need to meet at a restaurant, or if possible, a small meeting room. After that is settled, we need to see if we are able to possibly have speakers again. I do have two possible locations to inquire about. One is in Anne Arundel County near BWI and the other is in Baltimore City not too far from the stadium. If anyone else knows of a meeting spot, please advise.
Also, since we did not previously have someone to do a newsletter, other than my husband who is now simply too busy, I would be changing it to a more limited format that would be one or two pages in PDF form, and be emailed to the majority of the members. A few copies could be mailed to those without email addresses.
If we are to reestablish the club, dues of $20 would be received once again, and we would be able to hopefully get back on our feet. Mary Hart has renewed the website for the coming year so that is still in operation.
Please respond to this post as soon as possible and we can discuss this further. Our legacy as a club and educational group is something, in my humble opinion, that is worth saving.
Please let me hear from you.
Thank you,
Jan Sharik Baker
Acting President
