"Life doesn't have to end with the diagnosis”

For over 25 years Mark Sennet photographed the most recognized faces across the globe including U.S. presidents, the British royal family, sports legends and Hollywood icons. In 2022, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Today he views life through a new lens, which is reflected in a meaningful project he’s working on with his daughter Lauren. The duo is putting together a coffee table book that features his photography from his career and after his diagnosis. He plans to include celebrities and others who have been impacted by Alzheimer’s, as well as physicians and researchers working toward a cure. The bond between sisters is one of life's most enduring gifts. For Judy Halverson, that bond became the foundation of over a decade of raising awareness, funds and showing up — year after year — for her sister Sheri, who is living with Alzheimer's.

Judy first noticed signs of the disease when Sheri began dismissing small memory lapses in conversation. She joined her sister at a doctor's appointment to share her concerns. After some testing, Sheri was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

After her sister's diagnosis, Judy connected with the Alzheimer's Association and began attending local education programs, learning everything she could about the disease in an effort to support her sister. That is when she and Sheri learned about Walk to End Alzheimer's.

At their first Walk, Sheri arrived in a white straw hat, purple boa and purple walking shoes — showing off her unique style. "It was a fun day for her being surrounded by all her family and friends," Judy recalled.

Each year, Judy continues as team captain, providing "a time for friends and family to come together to share stories of Sheri and appreciate the memories that tie us together." This fall will be the team's eleventh year participating in Walk to End Alzheimer's.

đź’ś On National Sisters Day, we're grateful for volunteers like Judy, who show up year after year for their sisters and for every family impacted by Alzheimer's. Join Judy and find a Walk to End Alzheimer's near you at alz.org/walk.

After losing her husband to early onset Alzheimer’s, Jenelle Schatz was searching for a way to heal. She found it in an unexpected place — around a Mah Jongg table. 🀄

“I learned to play 14 years ago, shortly after my husband passed away. The focus and the friendships that I made served to carry me through a very dark time.”

In 2019, while volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Association, Jenelle learned about a fundraising initiative, now known as Do What You Love to End ALZ, that encourages people to turn their passion into purpose to help . “It just hit me that Mah Jongg players are generous and hardworking. What could be a better fundraiser?”

That year, Mah Jongg for Memories was born. It raised $30K in its first year. This year alone, the team has raised $237K (and counting) as a 2026 Gold National Team. And since its inception, Mah Jongg for Memories has raised over $1 million to support Alzheimer’s care, support and research. 💜

With Mah Jongg’s popularity soaring, Jenelle says, “We’re just getting started — and the sky is the limit.”

On , we’re proud to celebrate the incredible impact of Mah Jongg for Memories and all the teams of players who are crakking to help

🔬 Did you catch the exciting research news? A study reported at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference suggests that an Alzheimer’s blood test may help predict future Alzheimer’s risk before a person has memory or thinking problems.

While research is still ongoing, we asked the study's senior author Reisa Sperling, Ph.D., to break down the science and how the blood test could one day help guide treatment decisions.

❗Note: Experts caution that using blood tests to predict Alzheimer’s risk are not yet ready for use in a doctor’s office. Today, blood tests for Alzheimer’s biomarkers should only be ordered by a doctor for someone who is experiencing memory and thinking problems.
