This is one of those projects that almost didn’t happen. This lady lives near Friendsville (Susquehanna County) and Hezekiah’s Hands only covers Bradford County. It was explained to me that this woman hasn’t been out of the house on her own in over 3 years. A small ramp was donated to us by Albe & Sue Holbert and all we had to do was transport it. We discovered it didn’t meet ADA standards so we made some adjustments. The ramp was widened 3 1/2” and the landing needed a foot along one side.
Nancy Hughey (our project coordinator) gave us the option to tackle the project or deny it as it was out of our area. Jim Maus did the evaluation and when he explained the particulars….I felt compelled to go. Andy Dewing joined us and the 3 of us completed the project in 5 hours, unload to departure. We left after getting hugs and leaving a woman with tears of happiness.
Sometimes, when you feel that need to do something that you really don’t have to do, you’ve got to ask yourself…”What does God want me to do”. Never deny Him.
