The SCGS would like to thank the very talented storyteller, Anita Blake, for providing our program last Saturday, June 28th. She told us four stories, plus one encore story, handed down from her Montooth ancestors.

Her first story came from a challenge to make a story out of her great great uncle Sam Montooth’s obituary in 1900. The next two were about her grandmother Jennie Montooth who “knew her way around horses” especially fast horses. The fourth told about the opinions of her veterinarian grandfather, also named Sam Montooth, concerning people and their treatment of their horses.

If you haven’t watched the program yet, you have one month to watch the video here on Facebook. Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed it!

A note from SCGS President Sharon Perkins:

Since mailing our quarterly newsletter to members last Tuesday, we've discovered that yes, our members do read the Quarterly! We have an error to correct.

A photo shown on pages 1 and 6 was labeled incorrectly. Linda Quiram, who recently visited SCGS with her father, told me about the photo of George Olson on his tractor, called "The Colonel", pulling what I had referred to as a spreader. I only knew what she told me, and she only knew what she thought her dad told her. Of course, my husband, Larry, knew immediately we were both wrong. Larry told me that George was pulling an Allis-Chalmers Roto-Baler. Larry knew that from having worked with one while helping bale hay in the 1950s.

I also received a call from Bob Wilkinson to alert me to our error because he still has his dad's roto-baler at his farm. He also told me he was too young to have used it!

My son researched the roto-baler immediately and sent me some more information. If you want to be in-the-know about the roto-baler, you can find more at this link: http://theweekendhistorian.com/2013/01/22/allis-chalmers-roto-baler/

On another note, we received a fist-full of membership renewals in the mail this week. Thank you to those of you who have sent them in. Membership in SCGS includes access to the quarterly newsletter, and dues help support our genealogy library.
