Under cover of the Israel-US attack on Iran and Lebanon, Israel’s security cabinet approved the establishment of 34 new settlements in the West Bank. The resolution was kept secret for several weeks and published only after the ceasefire began.

These settlements join 68 others approved by the government since it took office, and more than 107 outposts built with assistance from the state.

Meanwhile, Israel is accelerating its ethnic cleansing of Palestinian residents. In two and a half years, 59 Palestinian communities have been expelled, and more than 40,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced from their homes.

This mechanism relies on close cooperation between two branches operated by the Israeli regime: armed settler militias carrying out daily violence on the ground with support and assistance from the military and the police, and a governmental-legal system that legitimizes and institutionalizes their actions. Over the past weekend alone, dozens of violent attacks by settlers against Palestinian residents and their property were documented.

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Recent polls indicate that only 57% of people age 18-29 in the United States consider the Holocaust to be a case of genocide.

For anyone who doubts whether the Holocaust was a genocide, consider watching "The U.S. and the Holocaust" directed by Ken Burns and produced by PBS. Historical evidence clearly shows that N**i Germany leaders orchestrated the killing of millions of Jewish people based solely on their religion and ethnicity, and they intended to eliminate all Jewish people from Europe (and beyond). This is a clear example of genocide.

Genocide is called "the crime of crimes." It is the responsibility of all our human family to learn from history and prevent genocide from happening again. But how can we do this if we can't even agree what genocide is?

Yesterday the International Criminal Court ruled that there is sufficient evidence to conclude that there "may be" a genocide happening right now in Gaza. An unbelievable situation in which the survivors of a genocide become perpetrators of a new genocide. The people of the United States have a responsibility to face this problem because U.S. taxpayer funds are directly supporting Israel's destruction of Gaza.
