to me
Dear Paranormal Investigators,
For the past three years, I have received dozens of requests and inquiries about the possibility of local investigative troupes conducting investigations of The Mark Twain House & Museum. I believe I wrote back to most, if not all of you, to say we would keep your request on file and be in touch if we would allow investigations. After our three appearances on GHOST HUNTERS and an upcoming episode of MY GHOST STORY, we felt we couldn’t keep saying “no” to you good folks! As I mentioned in response to many email queries, the safety of the house’s collections, liability insurance and staffing made it seem a daunting request to accommodate everyone. We’ve huddled with our curatorial staff to find the means to open the house for some limited investigation while covering the cost/risk of having the doors open late at night.
SO….On Saturday, January 19th, we will be hosting our first public GHOST HUNTING EVENT!
Here are the particulars:
1. The total experience will be 4 hours in duration beginning with a one-hour debrief on the house, family history and a recap of past paranormal activity and hot spots. After your debrief, you will have an hour to investigate the First Floor (Front Hall, Library, Dining Room and Drawing Room), an hour to investigate the Second Floor (all bedrooms, the Nursery and the School Room), and an hour to investigate the third floor (Billiards Room, landing and George’s Room) and the Servants’ Wing (kitchen).
2. People will be welcome to bring in their own hand-held equipment (DVR, EVP recorders, EMF detectors, infrared, cameras, etc.). The museum will not provide any equipment. Please note: no tripods. Of course, intuitives, mediums and psychics are welcome to bring just themselves!
3. Each team will consist of up to 10 people. The group can be 10 people associated with just your investigative troupe or it could be a combination of multiple groups or individuals. You will need to work as a team in order to ensure a smooth investigation.
4. Each group will be assigned a Mark Twain House & Museum group leader to help facilitate your visit and monitor that everyone is respectful of the property, its collections and each other.
5. As there will be up to three teams of 10 in the house at a time, silence/whispering will be essential and we ask that you plan on investigating in socks or soft slippers to minimize foot noise.
6. The cost is $85 per person for the debrief and the 3-hour investigation in the house. This helps cover the cost of staffing, liability coverage and, of course, helps preserve this National Historic Landmark.
7. Groups that want to double their investigative time in the house can book for one of the earlier slots (TEAM SUSY and TEAM GEORGE) and then purchase additional time by booking into the late night slots, giving you 6 hours of investigation time at a cost of $170 per person.
People are welcome to bring their investigative group or come individually. Unless you buy out an entire time slot, you will have to anticipate working with other individuals/investigative troupes.
The investigative schedule is below. Please select your preferred team (have some back-up options in case your first choice is filled) and call as soon as you can as this will be on a first-come, first-served basis! Again, we have received dozens of requests from many groups, we anticipate this opportunity will fill up quickly. TO MAKE YOUR RESERVATION: CALL (860) 280-3130!
