We had such a great time at our second annual Litchfield County 4-H cavy show yesterday. It was a "popcorn" and movie theme. We had the awesome judge Linda Keller work with the members on showmanship, breed identification, judging, and knowledge skills. We had an expanded pet show and we also had friends and family visit to view their projects. The kids won fantastic ribbons and closed the day out with popcorn and a movie of course in the converted "movie theater".

When a cavy does what we call a little popcorn they are jumping for joy - and there was certainly a lot of joy to be had yesterday. Congratulations to all.

We had another really fun meeting today where we made faux etched glass paintings of our cavies and pets. Each one came out so unique. We also learned more about rats and what makes them special pets. Thank you to the Starr family for bringing them to the meeting today.

We had a small but super fun meeting today learning to make costumes for our guinea pigs and pets. There was a pizza slice, matching unicorns, a pegasus, a pig, an Oreo, princess, chaotic breakfast, watermelon slice, skunk and a Reese's peanut butter cup. Everyone was focused and creative it was awesome. We also had a visit from a Champagne d'Argent rabbit. The Argent rabbit is one of the oldest breeds of French show rabbits. This variety will be silver when it's young but slowly turns black. Pretty cool. Learning about different pets and show animals this year has put a fun twist on our meetings.

We invite any 4-H cavy member in the state of CT to participate in our themed 4-H cavy show with judge Linda Keller on April 20th, 2024. This unsanctioned event has wonderful prizes and no fees to participate in. All animals must come in appropriate carriers. We welcome pets and have separate classes and a judging rubric for them to liven things up a bit. Showmanship, Breed ID, Custom ribbons, costume contest and we will cap the day off with a "pignic". We have themed sweatshirts for the event being ordered soon so let me know you are coming to get in on that action. Please PM me for me information.

Well today was the day - we counted and sorted through the new socks we collected as a part of our community service efforts and we collected 1,974 pairs of socks from our friends, family and our annual Walmart drive effort this year and we have received a pledge for 26 more pairs to put us at 2,000 pairs. We were able to package the socks into 9 bags and send them out with club families throughout the region to people in need. Once all the socks where tucked away we introduced showmanship to some of our new members, practiced showmanship judging with some of our older members and introduced rabbit and rat showmanship skills to those focused on those projects. Great meeting - great members - making a difference in the community.

We had a really successful and very cold sock drive today at Walmart in Torrington - we are still accepting sock donations for another week before we count and distribute to locals in need.
