Former mayor Frank Scotto teamed up with Chris Yco to talk to students about getting more involved in the city and giving back to their communities. His main message being: having the eyes to see the needs around you. It does not have to be big, but be as simple as helping a senior citizen take out the trash because they no longer have the strength to do it themselves. Frank Scotto encouraged students to be creative in their response to other's needs.

Students from all the Torrance high schools gave up sleeping in on a Saturday morning to join us to clean the Old Torrance Bridge. I am very proud of all the students that came in as they worked so hard picking up the trash with a smile the whole time. That definitely represents service above self.

The UCLA vs. USC tailgate at the DoubleTree Hotel! Joe and Josephine Bruin bear as well as Tavreller VII who is a purebred Andalusian horse attended the event! It was a great event with UCLA and USC coaches Terry Donahue and John Robinson sharing their memorable experiences coaching the football games. Live auctions were held to raise money for Torrance Unified School District.

Rotary Club of Lomita Airport is involved in an organization in Watts called PCI (People for Community Improvement). Every year, they host "Walk For Life," which focuses on people coming together to end the violence between gangs in the community. What started as 12 people walking along the neighborhood a few years back, has now turned into a big event with over hundreds of people wanting to get involved! Here is our own club president Elaine Thompson with our two Interacters Antonio and Isabella.
