Troop 218 Torrance

There’s a place in the California desert where the pavement ends, the Joshua trees reach for the sky, and giant granite boulders rise out of the earth like monuments.

And that’s where Troop 218 headed.

Indian Cove. Joshua Tree.

A lot of climbing. A little scrambling. A lot of dusty boots.

And then there was the wildlife.

Scorpions. Tarantulas. And yes… a rattlesnake.

For these Scouts, the weekend wasn’t just about getting to the top of a rock. It was about learning to trust your rope, trust your buddy, and keep climbing when the next move isn’t obvious.

There were laughs. There were challenges. There were some seriously high places.

And somewhere between the desert sun, the granite walls, and a bunch of Scouts cheering each other on, you remember what makes California special.

Adventure doesn’t always require a far-off destination.

Sometimes, it’s right here in our own backyard.

This is Troop 218.

And this is California Gold.

What an adventure! The boys took on Mount San Jacinto using the awesome Aerial Tramway, then backpacked into the beautiful Round Valley Campground, where we found an epic campsite tucked into the mountains.

We made a push for the summit and reached the top, but quickly felt the reality of going from sea level to over 10,000 feet in a single day.

Back at camp, we cooked dinner, played games, laughed, and enjoyed simply being out in nature. Most importantly, the boys stepped up to new challenges and took on new responsibilities with enthusiasm.

Proud of these guys for pushing themselves, supporting each other, and embracing the adventure. This is what Scouting is all about.

Today, Boy Scout Troop 218 Torrance proudly conducted a special Flag Ceremony at Brookdale Retirement Community in honor of America’s 250th Anniversary (Semiquincentennial)! 🎉
Our Scouts demonstrated the proper respect and presentation of the American flag while bringing patriotic spirit and smiles to the residents. It was a beautiful reminder of the values of service, leadership, and love of country that Scouting instills in our youth.

Thank you to the wonderful staff and residents at Brookdale for hosting us — your appreciation meant the world to our Scouts!

Here’s to 250 years of freedom and many more to come!

This trip had it all—launching rockets into the Lucerne Valley sky, cooling off with a swim at Lake Jackson, and tackling a hike that tested our navigation and teamwork skills.

When the trail washed out, our Scouts didn’t turn around. They worked together, found the route, and safely made their way through the challenge using way-finding skills and good judgment. That’s what Scouting is all about: adventure, leadership, problem-solving, and confidence.

From mountain views on Table Mountain to rockets soaring hundreds of feet above the desert, these Scouts made memories that will last a lifetime.

This Flag Day, Troop 218 was honored to join the local Elks Lodge in celebrating the history and meaning of our nation’s flag.

Scouts participated in the flag ceremony, helping demonstrate the respect, tradition, and patriotism that the American flag represents. Through service and leadership, these young men continue to learn that citizenship is more than a merit badge—it’s a commitment to honoring those who came before us and serving their community today.

Thank you to the Elks for keeping this important tradition alive and for allowing our Scouts to be part of the ceremony.

Another powerful Memorial Day ceremony at the Los Angeles National Cemetery with the Scouts of Troop 218 Torrance. Lots of changes have happened in the troop this past scouting year, but what hasn’t changed is our deep reverence for this special annual event.
For the first time, Troop 218 was trusted with the responsibility of placing a flag at the headstone of a Medal of Honor recipient. It was really cool learning the incredible story of the service member buried there — complete with the special plaque, blue flag, and an Order of the Arrow Scout standing at attention until the flag was placed. Super meaningful!
Take a moment this Memorial Day to remember the brave service men and women who made our freedoms possible. A Scout is Reverent, and days like this bring that to life.
