A Sweet Story

I got a call from a woman who was looking for ready-made meals. I asked how she heard about our Bikur Cholim, and her answer surprised me—she said she found us through ChatGPT!

I dropped off some kosher meals for her, and she was genuinely excited. She wasn’t expecting the meals to be kosher, so that made her day.

While we were talking, I told her more about what we do—how we try to support seniors in the community who are too often overlooked. Right away she said, “I want to help.” She offered to visit elderly Jewish women in senior living facilities and bring them our Shabbat gift bags.

She commented to me that her father's first yartzeit was coming up shortly... So we thought about it and then she agreed to take a commitment to light Shabbat candles this year in his memory.

So what started as someone looking for a little help turned into something even better. From now on, she’ll be receiving meals each week, and she’ll be giving back by visiting local seniors.

FREE FOOD FOR YOU and YOUR FAMILY. Wednesday, November 12, 9am-12 pm at Los Angeles Harbor College located at 1111 Figueroa Pl, Wilmington, CA 90744. This is a drive-thru food giveaway event providing family-sized boxes of free food brought to you by Los Angeles Harbor College, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, the County of Los Angeles and the Office of Supervisor Janice Hahn. No eligibility requirements and open to all. When you arrive, please follow the posted signs to the pick-up area.
