FIRST from WCME News:

WCME News has learned that a former chair of the Topsham-based SAD-75 School Board is seeking a return to the board, which he says is "broken."

Tyler Washburn resigned his Bowdoin-based board seat in 2020 when he left the town for a new home in Harpswell, where he will seek the seat now held by Linda Hall, who is apparently not seeking a new term in the election to be held on March 12. The filing deadline is the day ahead--January 11.

Washburn, who serves as Deputy Town Clerk in Topsham, has been a vocal advocate of reducing the large size of the SAD-75 Board, which is currently composed of 14 members--making it larger than the Legislature's Education Committee.

Washburn has devised a plan for gradually cutting the board's membership to eight members through a process of not filling certain seats when they come up for election. He also says the plan would maintain the board's weighted voting system, which is based on the varying populations of the four towns included in SAD-75.

Early voting is available at the Topsham Town Office during regular business hours. Mail-in absentee ballots are also available.

Thank you for visiting my page! I have been a resident of Topsham for 19 years. My husband and I have had six children attend and graduate from the schools in MSAD 75. While the children were in school, I volunteered in classes and with the parent organizations. Eventually, I became a substitute teacher and then was hired by the district to work in the special education program at Woodside Elementary. In 2018 I left employment with the district to pursue my bachelors in psychology and now, my Master's in mental health counseling.

We need to take politics out of the school and get back to educating our children in the basics. We need financial transparency as well as curriculum transparency. I have always believed our parents need more of a voice in the school as well as giving a voice to our students. I would like to be that voice for you and your family!
