this coming Thursday - GREAT opportunity to get ideas for household routines that keep food and organic waste out of the trash!

Topsfield's Sustainability Advisory Committee and Topsfield Town Library are proud to co-sponsor a Speaker Series focused on creating a greener, more sustainable Topsfield.

We are excited to host Jon Laurie from Black Earth Compost to discuss composting. Our current trash system is not sustainable, so we will show how food scrap diversion is an essential piece of the puzzle when looking at sustainable practices. Finished compost helps to add nutrients back into our soil systems while sequestering more carbon and retaining moisture. Participating in composting programs is a great way to give back to your local community and feel good about where your 'waste' is going.

This program will be recorded and made available on the library's YouTube page; it will also be directly emailed to all registrants.

3. Bring your bin to the curb!

Easy textile recycling! Details below - follow Sustainable Topsfield for more info like this!

Do you know that Masco hosts textile recycling bins on its campus in partnership with Bay State Textiles? Look for the big white bins in the school parking lot similar to the one pictured here!

They accept clean dry clothes, linens, shoes, rugs, and stuffed animals for reuse or recycling, supporting Masco with rebates, and aligning with Massachusetts's statewide ban on tossing textiles in trash.

Accepted items: clothing (even ripped and unwearable!), fabric accessories, linens (sheets, towels, drapes), rugs, stuffed animals, and anything with a fabric base (clean and dry).

What happens after you deposit items in the Masco bin?
- The school’s host clubs get rebates (DECA & Envi-Club)
- Quality items go to thrift stores.
- Lower-grade items are shredded for industrial uses like carpet padding, insulation, or wiping cloths.

A quick, easy, and sustainable solution!
