🇺🇸 Looking for something patriotic to do this weekend?

Come out to the Museum of the Kansas National Guard and help celebrate America's 250th Birthday! The Topeka Sons of the American Legion Squadron 421 will be there alongside Topeka American Legion Post 421, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 421 , and Hand Up, Stand Up - Ride .

If you've ever thought about joining the American Legion Family, this is the perfect chance to stop by and talk with us. Better yet, our friend Tony DeJesus is helping cover some or all of the membership cost for the first few eligible veterans, sons, or family members who decide to join.

No sales pitch. No pressure. Just good people, great conversations, and enough patriotism to make a bald eagle nod in approval.

Swing by our booth, meet the crew, learn what we're all about, and enjoy a great weekend honoring 250 years of American freedom.

🇺🇸 Veterans. Sons. Family members. We'd love to meet you.

June is PTSD Awareness Month.

Many veterans and servicemembers continue to face the effects of PTSD long after their time in uniform.

That's why The American Legion's Be the One initiative encourages all of us to check in on one another, listen without judgment, and help connect those who may be struggling with the support they need.

You don't have to have all the answers. Sometimes a simple conversation or reaching out can make all the difference.

Memorial Day weekend has already been a powerful reminder of what service, remembrance, and community look like here in Northeast Kansas.

11 members of the Topeka American Legion Post 421 family assisted with placing flags at Topeka Cemetery for the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Memorial Day ceremony, helping ensure our nation’s veterans were properly honored and remembered.

At Mount Auburn Cemetery, 14 members of our Post family worked alongside 5 players from their Kansas Senators Baseball American Legion Post 421 during a cemetery cleanup effort ahead of Memorial Day. Seeing younger generations step up beside veterans and Legion family members is exactly how traditions of service continue forward.

Meanwhile, our Squadron Commander had the privilege of joining the firing squad from American Legion Post 32 Alma, Kansas during their Memorial Day ceremony at St. John’s Cemetery in Alma, Kansas. The ceremony was held at the gravesite of Ray Miller — father of one of our charter Auxiliary members, father-in-law of a charter Legionnaire, and grandfather of our Sons Commander. In a touching moment, the family did not know beforehand that he would be participating in the honor detail.

Memorial Day is more than words. It is service. It is remembrance. It is carrying forward the responsibility to honor those who gave everything for this country.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time this weekend, and thank you to WIBW 13 News for helping highlight these important efforts in our community.
