In 1962 Rachel Carson published "Silent Spring" which brought attention to the dangers of pesticides. In January 1969 there was a large oil spill in Santa Barbara CA and in June 1969 the Cuyahoga River caught fire. Senator Ga***rd Nelson saw the need to educate and energize people to protect the environment. The first "Earth Day" was a teach-in on April 22, 1970. This lead to the creation of the EPA and the passage of the Clean Air Act of 1970, the Clean water Act of 1972 and the Endangered Species Act of 1973. This year we celebrate 51 years of environmental education. What does this inspire you to do?
