Kansas Courage Military Family Appreciation Weekend - save the dates for June 5-7!
Military families from across the region are invited to visit Topeka and enjoy a weekend filled with entertainment, recognition, and connection as the community comes together to show its appreciation for your service and sacrifice.
Friday, June 5 – Evergy Plaza Friday Flicks, presented by Communication Federal Credit Union. Families can enjoy:
- Splash pad and interactive water features
- Inflatable slide, obstacle course, and 3-hole Mini-Golf by Carnival Guy
- A variety of local food trucks
- A nighttime outdoor showing of F1
Saturday, June 6 – Heartland Salute to America
Celebrate America’s 250th birthday at the Museum of the Kansas National Guard during the Heartland Salute to America. This free, public event begins at 7 a.m. and features:
- Pancake breakfast
- Community parade and live band concerts
- Antique and classic car displays
- Military exhibits and historical reenactments
- Food trucks and family-friendly activities including face painting and inflatables
- A World War II battle reenactment honoring the service and sacrifice of Americans
Saturday Evening – Rock Concert & Military VIP Experience
Saturday evening returns to Evergy Plaza for a live rock concert in partnership with Seaman Schools Alumni Association. Military families will have access to a dedicated VIP tent experience during the show.
Weekend Dining & Community Participation
Throughout the weekend, military families can enjoy 20% discounts at participating downtown Topeka restaurants, including:
- The Pennant Topeka
- Iron Rail Brewing
- Ta Co. Topeka
- Hazel Hill Chocolate
The Kansas Children's Discovery Center is offering military families 10% off admission all weekend long. Hours and special events include:
- Friday, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a bubble party at 10 a.m.
- Saturday, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with Maker Space activities at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- Sunday, open noon to 5 p.m.
