This summer, we are spotlighting the passionate, strategic, and dedicated individuals who guide LeadingAge Kansas, KING, EBI, and our Foundation to service and success.

Kicking off our Board Spotlights, is Kris Erickson, Board Chair of the LeadingAge Kansas Board of Directors.

Kris has been an administrator since 2001, and currently serves the residents of Bethany Village as CEO.

What keeps Kris excited about serving seniors?
"Seniors are fascinating people with great histories, but it is also fun to see young staff develop a passion for caring."

What does Kris like most about serving on our board?
"LeadingAge Kansas has been one of my best resources throughout my career. I chose to serve as a way of giving back for all the support I’ve received."

Kris would like members to know:
"I haven’t always been in senior care. I spent three years as a licensed School Psychologist. Elders are more interesting than kids!"

Congratulations to Leonardville Nursing Home for being recognized as a Level 1 Age Friendly Health System! It's great to see our members pioneering new programs and frameworks successfully to become leaders in aging services! We can't wait to see them reach Level 2 status later this year!

There are currently no other stand-alone long term care facilities in Kansas to hold this achievement!

For the past 5 months, we have been active in a symposium through the University of Kansas Medical Center: Kansas 4M Educational Series. This training program uses an evidence-based framework known as the 4M's:
What Matters,
Medication,
Mentation (Mind), and
Mobility.
Through much education and evaluation, we have developed a plan and have received approval from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement to move forward in integrating this system into our building. Over the next 3 months, we will continue implementation and submit progress on how we are effectively putting the 4M's in place, and with successful demonstration, we will achieve a Level 2 status by the end of the summer.

As only one of 10 Mentor Home in Kansas in the K-State Center on Aging PEAK program, being additionally recognized as an Age-Friendly Health Center participant is a great honor. It is our goal to bring awareness to the ever-changing elder population in long term care and to provide the best individualized, holistic care possible.

KING is a group-funded workers compensation pool that began offering workers compensation coverage to LeadingAge Kansas members on April 1, 1990. KING now insures more than 60 LeadingAge Kansas members generating between $2-3 Million in premiums annually. LeadingAge Kansas staff provides management services and oversight of the KING program.
