“Ashley: Family, faith, service, smiles, dedication.”

Meet Ashley, one of the friendly faces of our Front Desk Team! Ashley has worked at the Y off and on since 2018 and enjoys connecting with members and helping create a welcoming experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

Outside of the Y, Ashley works full-time at Silver Lake Bank. She is a wife, mom of three, stepmom of one, and proud "Gigi" to her 7-month-old grandson. When she's not working, she is catching up on things around the house, spending time with her family, the kids, and grandson.

An interesting fact about Ashley is that she sings in the church band every Sunday at LifePoint Church! She grew up in Soldier and Holton, Kansas, and while she didn't attend the Y as a child, we're grateful she has been a part of our Y family for several years.

“Kelsey joins YMCA, inspiring young minds!”

Hi everyone! My name is Kelsey, and I’m so excited to be joining the YMCA Early Learning Center as the new Director!

I have been working in early childhood education for almost 10 years, with four of those years spent in management and leadership roles. Throughout my career, I’ve developed a genuine passion for early education and the incredible impact those early years can have on a child’s development, confidence, and future.

I hold my Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Director’s Approval, and certifications in CPR and First Aid. I’m passionate about creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where children can learn and grow, while also building strong relationships with families and staff.

I’m incredibly excited for this opportunity and look forward to getting to know everyone, becoming part of the YMCA community, and making a positive impact at the Early Learning Center. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together!

Today, we say goodbye to someone who has left a lasting mark on the Topeka YMCA.

Cathy, thank you for your passion, creativity, and unwavering dedication to our members, families, and staff. Your heart for serving others has been evident in everything you've done, and our Y is a better place because of you.

One of the many ways you've made a difference is through our summer camp program. You made camp truly special by creating exciting weekly themes that sparked imagination, encouraged friendships, and gave our campers something to look forward to every single week. From unforgettable fishing adventures to the fun and excitement you brought each day, you created memories that our campers will carry with them for years to come. Your ability to make every child feel seen, valued, and excited to come to camp each day is a gift that won't be forgotten.

Thank you for the countless hours, the laughter, the encouragement, and the love you've poured into our YMCA family. While we're sad to see you go, we're incredibly grateful for the impact you've had on so many lives.

As you begin this next chapter, we hope you have an amazing trip to California! Enjoy every moment, make wonderful memories, and know that you'll always have a home here at the Topeka YMCA.

Welcoming Rodney, strengthening our YMCA family.

Employee Spotlight: Meet Rodney McNeal!

Please join us in welcoming Rodney, our new Manager on Duty! Rodney joined the YMCA team on June 29 and quickly discovered that he already had connections with several members and staff, making him feel right at home.

Fun Fact: Rodney is originally from Oakland California and that is where he started his connection with the Y as a kid. When he lived in Kansas City during High School there were only a couple of places to play basketball and the YMCA was the place to be. He and his friends spent countless hours at the Y playing basketball, staying active, and building friendships. Now, he's bringing that same appreciation for the YMCA and its mission to our team.
When he's not at the Y, Rodney enjoys spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He's also a sports fanatic who loves watching just about any sport he can, whether it's on TV or in person.

Be sure to say hello and give Rodney a warm YMCA welcome when you see him around the Y!

Our campers loved the delicious meal, and your kindness helped make an already amazing day even more special. Also thank you Shawnee Mounted Posse for coming out for our camp kids and Jr Explorers today.

From making new friends and trying new things to laughing, playing, and creating unforgettable memories, camp is full of moments that last a lifetime. Seeing the smiles on our campers' faces reminds us that community partnerships like this make a real difference.

“Building healthier communities together with Congressman Schmidt.”

We were honored to welcome Congressman Derek Schmidt to the Topeka YMCA today. Thank you for taking the time to visit, listen, and learn about the exciting work happening throughout our YMCA.

It was a privilege to share the many ways we're strengthening our community from expanding high quality childcare and before & after school programs, to investing in our facilities through our capital campaign, growing access with YMCA360, and advancing Capital "H" Health by helping individuals and families improve their overall well being.

We are incredibly grateful for your interest in the mission of the YMCA and your willingness to see firsthand the positive impact these initiatives are making in the lives of children, families, and seniors across Topeka.

Making friends, trying new things, having fun.

Campfire Across America at the Topeka YMCA!

Yesterday, our YMCA campers gathered around the campfire to celebrate Campfire Across America, joining camps across the country in a tradition of friendship, fun, and community.
At the YMCA, we have three main goals for every camper:
Meet a new friend
Try something new
Have fun

This special event brought all three to life! Campers enjoyed delicious burgers, hot dogs, watermelon, and of course, s'mores while making memories that will last long after summer ends. We were excited to serve just under 100 campers, families, and staff as we celebrated everything that makes YMCA camp so special.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening a success. Here's to more adventures, more friendships, and more unforgettable camp moments!
