An update from KCHP's President:

As we wrap up celebrating Pharmacy Week, I wanted to share some brief KCHP updates! I am excited to share that the KCHP Board selected a new association management company in August, Kelly Dando Consulting (KDC). Over the last two months we have worked closely with the KDC team to update, organize, and align operations within KCHP. Our website and social media accounts are updated so be sure to check in with us at kchponline.org and follow us on all of our social platforms -- Instagram, X, LinkedIn, & Facebook -- to see what is new!

The KCHP Board recently updated our strategic plan, and we want to share details of those priorities with you. The full strategic plan is included below however, I want to highlight our top priority for the coming months: growing our active membership base 25% by April 25, 2025. To best position KCHP to successfully support hospital and health system pharmacy practice, increasing and engaging our members is critical. Between now and our Spring Meeting on April 25, 2025 you will see focused energy on connecting with you as members, increased digital and social media presence, and efforts to bring in new members while re-recruiting current and previous members. One strategy to achieve that is through the addition of our New Practitioner Liaison appointed role, which is set to be filled shortly. We are excited to have this role on the Board to help us support newer practitioners and support our overall membership efforts.

In closing I wanted to share gratitude to all of you! Pharmacy Week is a time to celebrate our wonderful profession and reflect on our key role in patient care. If you are interested in getting more involved in KCHP and volunteering or interested in running for board position, email kchppharmacy@gmail or any of the current board members to learn more!

Thank you for all that you do! I hope you enjoyed this special week!
Chris Bell, PharmD, MS
KCHP President

We'd like to round out our National Pharmacy Week 2024 spotlights by showcasing a young person who is learning now how to shape the future of our industry, University of Kansas student Jacob Suiter.

From Macksville, Kansas, Jacob's first job was as a farmhand for his grandparents. Now, he is a
P3 Student Pharmacist, Student Society of Health System Pharmacists (SSHP) President, and Rho Chi (KU pharmacy academic honor society) Treasurer. Jacob said he joined KCHP two years ago to "make connections and learn more about health-system pharmacy."

When asked what he is celebrating most about the pharmacy profession during NPW 2024, Jacob said, "I love seeing the collaboration of pharmacists with other members of the healthcare team to better serve patients! Pharmacists can be advocates for their patients in so many ways!"

We are proud to have young people like Jacob pursuing a career in pharmacy! It's safe to say the future is in good hands. โœจ

As part of National Pharmacy Week 2024, we'd like to share a Member Spotlight from our KCHP community!

Cardiology Pharmacist Kristen Fischer (PharmD, BCCP) joined KCHP nearly a decade ago while still in school. When asked about her early membership she said, "I became a member of KCHP as a student to learn more about Health-System pharmacy from area leaders and begin advocating for our profession." She continued, "I have retained my membership as a pharmacist to share ideas for best practices with other local pharmacists, and to continue my professional growth and support for the advancement of pharmacy practice."

And when asked what aspect of her profession she is celebrating most during National Pharmacy Week 2024, Kristen replied, "My favorite thing about working in pharmacy is the opportunity that pharmacists have to advocate for our patients, provide them with the best patient-centered care, and to serve our communities."

Thank you for your recollections and insights, Kristen! We appreciate you in our local pharmacy community!

As a special Technician Tuesday treat, KCHP would like to spotlight another invaluable member: Jacob Nelson!

Originally from Savannah, Missouri -- and from his very first job at Pizza Hut -- Jacob has now been an active KCHP member for more than seven years. He said that opportunities to network, share, and learn from peers and colleagues originally drew him to KCHP. Today, he is recognizing a broader scope of the community we serve together.

Jacob said, "During this Pharmacy Week, I'm celebrating the incredible impact that pharmacy professionals have on patient care. As a pharmacy automation administrator, I'm especially excited about the ways that technology is helping to improve safety, efficiency, and patient outcomes."

Thank you, Jacob! You are appreciated during National Pharmacy Week -- and everyday!

For this Technician Tuesday, KCHP would like to put a spotlight on member Eric Calovich!

Previously working in radiology, Eric made the switch to pharmacy 6 years ago for a change of pace -- and has since been an integral part of his pharmacy team. Eric provides great insight and ideas on how to continuously improve the pharmacy workspace for technicians and helps train others in multiple inpatient spaces. When asked what his favorite part about being a technician is, Eric said it can be hard to pick just one thing, but he loves that his work helps others and impacts their lives.

A piece of advice from Eric for other techs: "Do it for the patient. Whether you're stocking cabinets, dispensing patient doses, or talking to nurses, it can be easy to lose sight of the big picture and wonder why you should bother going the extra mile. It's important to remember why we are here: We help people. Patients at all stages and walks of life. Do it for the patient."

Thank you, Eric! We are proud to recognize and celebrate you today during National Pharmacy Week 2024!
