We have some big news to share! SENT Inc. has been selected to receive one of the City of Topeka's Special Alcohol & Drug (SAD) grant!

This funding will go directly toward supporting substance use disorder recovery services right here in our community. It is an investment in neighbors who are doing the hard work of recovery — and in making sure the support they need is close, trusted, and within reach.

We are deeply grateful to the City of Topeka for this investment in our community and in the people we serve.

Recovery is possible. And grants like this one help make sure that people do not have to find their way through it alone.

🎒 Picture a fourth grader we'll call Jayden. His teacher notices he has been quieter lately, struggling to focus, and tired most mornings.

Because SENT's Campus Connections team works inside partner schools like Ross Elementary, Eisenhower Middle School, Highland Park High School, and Avondale Academy, that teacher does not have to figure it out alone. She connects with SENT staff already in the building.

What they learn is that Jayden's family is stretched thin. So the wraparound begins. A Neighbor Advocate helps the family access groceries at the Southside Filling Station, stocked weekly with fresh produce through the Kansas City Food Hub partnership. The Community Resource Council helps with a past-due utility bill. And Jayden gets connected to mentorship through partners like the One Heart Project, plus life skills programming through 4-H and K-State Research and Extension when the new Campus Connections after-school program gathers.

Jayden's teacher made one connection. The partners did the rest, together.

That is the model. In 2025, SENT's Neighbor Advocates coordinated 1,047 referrals, and 1 in 3 went to partners outside SENT. We do not need to own every solution. We need to connect every family to the right one.

The research backs it up: Casey Family Programs found that every $1 invested in family resource centers returned as much as $4.70, and communities with centers like ours showed significantly lower rates of child maltreatment investigations. When support arrives early and connected, kids and families do better.

We don't do this work alone. We never wanted to.

🎃 It's about so much more than Halloween costumes!

🌈 At SENT, we believe every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported. That's WHY our Halloween Costume Giveaway is about more than just costumes.

🎉 This year, 540 people attended, and 192 children completed our Child Mental Wellness Stations—nearly THREE TIMES as many as last year!

❤️ Prevention doesn't always look like a counseling session. Sometimes it looks like a child learning to name an emotion while dressed as their favorite superhero.

😊 Our hope is that children come looking for a Halloween costume but leave with so much more—new skills to understand and manage their emotions, connections to helpful resources, and the reminder that they matter.

💜 That's the WHY behind this event. And that's what makes this work so meaningful to us!

Jill goes above and beyond in her efforts every day to help move SENT's work forward every day.

🏡 Her leadership and commitment to our community makes such a difference in the lives of our neighbors.

Jill's recent effort to put all the moving pieces together for our strategic planning sessions was truly remarkable. Her work resulted in having 50 staff, board members, donors, community members and partners attend strategic planning.

Jill leads with the belief that lasting community change happens when organizations choose collaboration.

SENT Inc. has partnered with Aimee Health to bring low-cost virtual medical care to our neighbors through the SENT Family Resource Center. For $5 a month, you get access to urgent care, primary care, discounted prescriptions through Cost Plus Drugs, and more — anytime, anywhere.

New members receive their first three months free and a free first primary care visit.

Bring your own bags. It helps us to save money and it gets you an extra dry item in the store

Bring your milk bottle back!! This is imperative to continue milk service. You will also get an extra item anywhere in the store.

How do we create real, lasting change in a community?

There are four ways communities have historically tried to meet needs — and understanding the difference matters.

Think about it through the lens of fishing:

🎉 More great news to share — SENT Inc. has been awarded a Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) discretionary grant through Kansas Housing Resources Corporation!

This grant will allow SENT to expand our Community Health Worker (CHW) Registered Apprenticeship pathway — specifically helping women transition from incarceration into employment while improving health navigation for low-income Kansans in Shawnee County.

This is exactly the kind of work we believe in: meeting people at one of the hardest transitions of their lives, equipping them with real credentials and real skills, and creating a pathway toward employment, stability, and dignity.
