For years, the Summer Sky Extravaganza has been a place where our community gathers to celebrate, connect, and enjoy a summer night together.

This year, we’re stepping into something new.

For the first time in Topeka, the night will end with a drone light show set to music, transforming the sky in a way we’ve never experienced before.

Today, we recognize and honor Juneteenth—a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, culture, and the ongoing pursuit of justice and equity.

Juneteenth is also a reminder that healthy communities are built when dignity, opportunity, and belonging are accessible to everyone.

As we observe the holiday, the SENT Inc. office, Southside Filling Station, and Southside Wellness Clinic will be closed for the day.

📢 Office Closure | In observance of Juneteenth, SENT’s office, clinic, and food pantry will be closed on Thursday and Friday, June 18th and June 19th.

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It is a day of remembrance, reflection, and celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice and equity.

At SENT, we recognize Juneteenth as an important moment to honor history, acknowledge the enduring impacts of racial injustice, and recommit ourselves to building communities rooted in dignity, opportunity, and belonging for all.

Regular hours will resume following the holiday closure. Thank you for your understanding as we take time to observe and reflect.

The community is invited to celebrate the groundbreaking of Johnson-Betts Meadows, a new 176-unit affordable housing development designed to strengthen housing stability and expand opportunity for families across our community.

Johnson-Betts Meadows is being developed through a collaborative partnership between SENT Inc., Hoppe Development, Mesner Development Co., and the Topeka Housing Authority, with the event proudly co-hosted by The Greater Topeka Partnership.

The development will serve Low-to-Moderate Income families earning 60% or below Area Median Income and reflects a broader vision for long-term neighborhood transformation through housing, health, workforce development, and wraparound community support.

The project is named after Pamela Johnson-Betts, whose decades of leadership and advocacy for underserved communities continue to inspire this work today.

We invite neighbors, partners, community leaders, and supporters to join us as we take this exciting next step together.

👏 Congratulations to Trenton, one of SENT’s workforce apprentices! He left us this week to start his new job!

🚦 While with our workforce apprenticeship program he was able to receive full wrap around support and because we create relationships and not perform transactions that support doesn’t stop.

❤️ We will continue to follow-up with him for two years offering support wherever and however we can.

🪏 If you are interested in our workforce development program please contact Dean J Holmes up at [email protected]. Right now the areas we cover are construction, building maintenance, horticulture, and Community Health Workers (CHWs). Maria Torrez Anderson, [email protected] is our CHW specialist.
