KACAP: Kansas Association of Community Action Programs

KACAP: Kansas Association of Community Action Programs Community Action changes people's lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities and makes America a better place to live.

KACAP is a proud member of America's Povety Fighting Network. KACAP aims to engage Kansas and Midwestern communities in a dialogue about how to establish economic security for all residents. Beyond training and technical assistance for our member agencies, KACAP offers three key outreach programs:
1) The Poverty Simulation - a group activity that allows participants to EXPERIENCE the stress and di

ficulties of survival under the poverty mantle.
2) Poverty: A-Z - an art as advocacy exhibit.
3) The Kansas Conference on Poverty - an annual event that discusses new data, potential innovations and best practices in the fight against poverty. For information on any of these, visit www.kacap.org

Today is the final day of Community Action Month 2026 β€” and while the calendar turns, our mission never stops. 🌟 For more than 60 years, Community Action agencies have been walking alongside Kansas families through the hardest moments of their lives β€” and celebrating with them when they reach the other side. This month, we shared stories, spotlighted programs, celebrated milestones, and reminded our community what it means to show up for one another. But the work continues. Tomorrow. Next month. All year long. To every Kansan we've served, to every partner who stood with us, and to every member of our community who chose to believe that poverty is not a life sentence: THANK YOU. We are Community Action. And we are not done. πŸ’›

What a month it has been! 🌻 As Community Action Month 2026 comes to a close this weekend, we are pausing to celebrate every single person who made this month meaningful: the families who showed courage, the staff who showed up, the volunteers who gave their time, and the community that rallied around the mission of fighting poverty right here in Kansas. Community Agencies are powered by community β€” and this month reminded us just how strong ours is. Tomorrow is the final day of CAM 2026. Come back for our closing message. You won't want to miss it. πŸ’›

It's Thankful Thursday β€” and we have SO much to be grateful for. πŸ™πŸ’› To our dedicated staff who show up every day with compassion and professionalism: thank you. To our volunteer board members who guide our mission with wisdom and heart: THANK YOU. To our community partners across Kansas who extend our reach and multiply our impact: THANK YOU. And to the community members who trust us with your needs, your stories, and your futures β€” you are the reason everything we do matters. Community Action is built on relationships, and we are honored to be in relationship with all of you.

With summer just around the corner, keeping cool shouldn't mean choosing between groceries and an electric bill. β˜€οΈ Through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), ECKAN and NEK-CAP help senior homeowners and low-income families prepare for rising temperatures β€” improving attic insulation, sealing air leaks, and ensuring HVAC systems run efficiently. Weatherization isn't just a home improvement β€” it's a lifeline for many Kansas seniors on fixed incomes. Did you know WAP crews are often local workers trained right here in Kansas? It's workforce development and community impact rolled into one.

It's Training Tuesday! πŸŽ“ This week, we're spotlighting something that touches every aspect of life: financial literacy and adult education. Kansas Community Action Agencies offer programs such as free financial coaching, GED preparation, adult literacy classes and the summerThe Way to Work program, to help our neighbors build the skills and confidence to manage their finances, advance their education, and pursue new opportunities. Knowledge is power β€” and these programs help Kansas families take control of their futures.

Today, we pause. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ On this Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who gave everything in service to our country β€” and we hold their families in our hearts. The values that define Memorial Day β€” sacrifice, service, and a deep love for community β€” are the same values that guide the work of Community Action every day. KACAP is grateful for those who serve and have served. Our offices are closed today in observance of Memorial Day. We will return on Tuesday, May 26.

As we enter the final week of Community Action Month, we pause to reflect on a promise β€” one made over 60 years ago and renewed every day by agencies right here in Kansas. 🌱 The Community Action Promise: "Community Action changes people's lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other." That promise is alive in every family served, every utility bill paid, every child who started kindergarten a little more ready to learn. One week left in CAM 2026. Let's make it count.

As CCAP Celebration Week continues, we want to take a moment to celebrate the heartbeat of all our Kansas Community Action Agencies: our staff and volunteers. 🌟 Every case manager, outreach worker, Head Start teacher, weatherization technician, driver, and board member who shows up β€” YOU are Community Action. You are the reason families in Kansas have hope. This Community Action Month, we celebrate YOU. Tell us in the comments: what does Community Action mean to you? What keeps you coming back? We'd love to hear your voice.
