Here’s what’s up! Running Free sets September 14, 2024 as the day to raise funds for Kansas Recovery Network, Inc. This committed non-profit saves lives by digging into high risk areas with NARCAN and other supports. According to the CDC and Prevention, it’s estimated 187 people in the US die every day of opioid overdoses, most often involving illicit and dangerous versions of fentanyl.

We were fortunate to run with Micha years back; she continues to support RF to this day. Every year since her departure, she hosts her own hometown race to benefit the club that encouraged her through dark times.
We admire you, Micha and thank you for your continued support❤️

We’re always happy about being the first at something.
Running Free creates the American Cancer Society Relay For Life inside the wire at Topeka Correctional Facility! Residents raise money from the sale of food and donations to support the cause.

We've been running for food! Our most recent 5K/10K benefit run nets $4600 for Harvesters - The Community Food Network, which translates to 9,000 meals. Runners better their community by caring and sharing for the hungry.

When the Running Free page is hacked but on the same day this note arrives:

‘I was at TCF for 4 years and was part of Running Club. Running Club saved me while I was locked up. I don’t know how I would have survived my incarceration without you guys. I felt like I was a real person and not just an inmate. I was released from prison in April of 2021. I have continued ever since! Before prison I smoked and drank, I do neither now. Running is my escape, my stress reliever. On average, I run 40 miles a week. Thank you for helping to change my life and making me a better person’.

Running for the good.

Our own Steve Sodergren will have the honor of sitting in the Buck O'Neil Legacy Seat tomorrow afternoon at the 1:15pm Royals vs. Texas Rangers game! This privilege is awarded to a community member who "on a large or small scale embodies an aspect of Buck's spirit". Steve was nominated for his commitment to help others through his self created Running4, designed to raise money for cancer research while honoring the angels, fighters and survivors affected by this disease. In addition, Steve volunteers twice a week with Running Free at the Topeka Correctional Facility for Women where he is a much loved and respected role model and mentor.
Congratulations, Steve!

RF welcomes "Team Epic" at the Lebanon Correctional Institution in Lebanon, Ohio to the growing list of running programs in correctional facilities. The new program led by devoted LCI volunteer (and author) Julie Busby introduces male inmates to the power of the run as a catalyst for personal growth and positive change.

Running changes things.
