City Council Public Meeting on allowing Duplex/Triplex/Quadplex in Single-Family Zoning Districts Public Meeting
This public meeting is your opportunity to weigh in on whether Topeka will allow existing single-family houses to be converted into duplexes, triplexes, or quadplexes, and whether new duplexes, triplexes, or quadplexes can be built in existing residential 1 neighborhoods. The proposal is to apply this citywide, regardless of existing neighborhoods.
We first brought this proposal to your attention about a year ago. Recommendations from the Topeka Planning Commission have been presented to the City Council, which will vote on them in the near future.
Even though the change will apply citywide, our older neighborhoods, like College Hill — especially those with alleys — are of prime importance to this plan because alleys allow for more parking. If this proposed change is adopted, our neighborhood will be impacted forever.
The reality is that our neighbors in College Hill have differing opinions on this proposal. The important thing to keep in mind is that you have the right to address the public meeting and share your opinion.
