The Guild is celebrating 110 years of art and artists in October, as well as celebrating the TAG Open Studio, pictured here when we were located at the west end of the Fairlawn Plaza Mall. Other photos are in our new location, at the Mall’s main entrance. Tuesday, October 20, is our TAG Member Meeting and we invite you to join us that evening as we both reminisce and celebrate our past AND present! Social begins at 5:30, and formal reminiscing at 6pm! Please PM here, or RSVP on our Website so we will have out enough chairs for you and friends!

TAG’s OPEN STUDIO has brought in a figure drawing model, as they did at the end of September. Of course Daisy Mae is not a PROFESSIONAL model , but we believe that she IS a MUSE for Open Studio, and artist Lin Fredericksen had a specific need of a figure model for a particular charcoal drawing! Captured the modeling session and preliminary drawing, and Lin also shared the finished charcoal. Artist Lin Fredericksen is ALSO our Artist of the Month; she’ll be with us from 4:30 to 7:30 pm, at our FIRST FRIDAY reception, 10.02.26, here in mall.

If you want t go tour the Gallery and/or check-out the TAG GIFT SHOP…on THURSDAYS we are open until 7PM throughout the rest of this year!

Meet our October 2026 Artist of the Month, Lin Fredericksen!

Lin drew a lot when she was young, and when she retired she decided it was time to pick it back up. She started coming to TAG's Thursday Open Studios and tried watercolors first, because (she thought) that would be the easiest place to start. Watching and talking with the experienced artists in the studio, Lin learned a lot. They generously mentored her and even shared their materials so she could try new mediums. In her words, "I had a lot of fun, even if my paintings weren't very good!"

Then Lee Hammond arrived in Topeka, and Lin was lucky enough to be in Thursday studio at just the right time. Taking Lee's classes at TAG from 2019 to 2022, Lin's drawing skills improved dramatically. She learned colored pencil techniques for the first time and still loves working in them today. She has fond memories of classes meeting under the shade trees in Gage Park during COVID.

Lin's story is exactly what Thursday Open Studios is all about: showing up, learning from each other, and having fun making art. Stop by and see her work this month, and join us in congratulating Lin!

It's Aaron Douglas Art Fair day, and the Topeka Art Guild is out in full force! Come find us and say hello.

We're so proud that our very own director, Marie Plinsky, is this year's featured artist. Congratulations, Marie!

Guild member Phoebe Trite has her artwork on display in Booth 2, so be sure to stop by. And keep an eye out for fellow member Samantha Morrison with "Pop-Up Poetry by Sam." You never know when a poem might find you!

Deanna Rowe, who organized our Topeka Art Guild booth, is there showcasing the work of so many talented Guild artists. Nancy will be sharing information about the Guild, so if you've ever thought about joining, today is a great day to ask.

A big thank you to Deanna, Nancy, and all of our wonderful volunteers who are out there today supporting the Guild and the Aaron Douglas Art Fair. We hope to see you there!

Call for Artists: We're looking for original, handmade fine art in any medium — painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, fiber, glass, jewelry, mixed media, and more. This is a juried fair, so we're selecting a strong, varied mix of quality work across mediums and price points. We have 30 booth spots for our 3rd annual fair, the first (and only indoor) art fair of the season in the Topeka area — a great opportunity to reach early-season buyers. Juried by panel

Early-bird entry/jury fee: $25 (through Nov 30, 2026), $45 after. Booth fee: $100, charged only if accepted. Jury notifications by January 30, 2027.

September through May, the Topeka Art Guild holds TAG Member Meetings on the 3rd Tuesdays. When we offer educational programs, such as our kick-off this week, we open these meeting to the public. This month we were honored to have Staci Dawn Schnacker, Arts Administrator for the NOTO Arts & Entertainment District, cover the business side of art, information beneficial to all artistic levels, with “Jumpstart Your Art Career: From Passion to Practice”. The evening was jammed with information and individual artists sharing from their personal experience. We encourage you to watch for future programs here! We also hold sessions for TAG members only.
