We typically practice at Sk8Away on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Our current practice schedule can be found here: https://adastrajrd.com/calendar. Come watch a practice. If you want, we can loan you some gear (skates, helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads) and you can get out there and learn a few things! We will teach you everything you need to know, first of which is how to skat
e and how to fall. Still not sure? You can attend 4 practices for free, borrowing gear each time, before deciding to join! After that, we collect monthly dues of $40/skater. The "Season" for us is generally year-round, except for August. Around the holidays, the practice schedule is usually fairly light and dues are prorated. If you decide to join our team, you'll need your own gear (listed above) plus a mouth guard. Based on skill and other factors, you will work your way up from the skate school - learning how to skate and fall correctly - to working with the Novas to learn the game basics. The Novas are our lower skill-level team (levels 1, 2 and low level 3), and in addition to playing in Topeka, we do some light travel in the region. Once you're ready, you can be invited to try out for our Ad Astra Charter team. The Ad Astra Charter team is our high level (3), full contact, nationally competitive team. This team often travels with the Novas to local mashups or tournaments, but they also travel on their own, and often much further - like Florida, California, Oregon, Texas, etc. With all of these events, there is a cost. Whether that is tournament fees, venue rental when we host, airline tickets, lodging or any of the many other things, we like to lessen the cost as much as possible through fundraising. Fundraising is a large part of being involved or being a parent of a kid involved with our team. We organize many fundraising events throughout the year, and we need all the help we can get!! Come check us out!
