We are a group of seven serious amateur potters taking classes and working with clay at Fire Me Up Ceramics (FMUC) in the NOTO District in Topeka.
None of us are independent artists. Still, most of us showcase and have pottery pieces on sale at the FMUC gallery.

Pottery is most likely one of the earliest human inventions and working with clay and water is something ingrained in our DNA. despite being an organic material, small figurines as old as 30,000 years showed the artistic flair in depicting the female body, followed by fired vessels capable of holding grain, water, oil and wine.

Working with clay is a meditative process, where the potter kneads the piece of clay to make pliable while knowing that same piece will let him or her know what it wants to be.

Every handmade pottery piece, whether it is a simple mug or bowl, or an elaborate vase or tulipiere, is unique. The potter left their thought process, hand skills, knowledge and experience into making the object.

We hope we can show our community what each of us discovered about ourselves in making pottery.

Ethan Garrard is a 26-year-old artist who has autism. Ethan has always been interested in art, even as a child. He has an amazing eye for what colors go together and finds inspiration in the world around him.

Art has expanded Ethan's world - he loves talking to other artists about their art and sharing his. Ethan wants to share his art with his "fans", as he calls them - he wants to make people happy.

Emmy Fischer is a 2019 grad from John Brown University and has a BS in the Fine Arts, with a concentration in illustration. She specializes in character design and comic style illustration as well as linoleum printmaking. She enjoys reading and paddle boarding when not creating artwork. Emmy focuses on a lot of portraiture and telling stories visually through her work.

Devin Wineinger is a 2D artist who enjoys making unique artwork using colored pencils, markers, and pens. Her work often combines ordinary things in extraordinary ways. She is also passionate about creating art that delves into human emotions and mental health.

Wineinger received her Bachelors of Arts degree and English minor from Washburn University in 2018. Her artwork has been exhibited in the Mulvane Art Museum, the Amused Gallery, the NOTO Arts Center, & the Topeka Mayor’s office. Her work has also been published dozens of times in the Washburn Review newspaper and in the book Stories of Hope: A Book of Interviews from Around the World (2020). She also illustrated the children’s book Grandma Gummy’s Garden (2024) and is in the process of writing and illustrating a dystopian sci-fi novel.

Wineinger started her own business, Sparks & Steam, in April 2019 where she sells her hand drawn artwork as well as wares featuring her designs. The shop currently has a physical location, an online store, and an Etsy shop.

In 2023, Wineinger organized and curated “Mental Health in Art & Word” a mixed medium art show. The show featured 15 artists and writers and promoted mental health awareness while raising funds for the 988 National Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

In her free time, Wineinger enjoys creating and wearing cosplays, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family. She currently lives in Topeka, Kansas with her husband, sons, and two cats.

Our next artist showing with us this year is Dean Fry!

A recent Fine Arts graduate from Emporia State, Dean moved to Topeka in 2024 and has been making small prints and ceramic mugs in their spare time and through the Emporia Art Council as a weekend instructor.

Their works on paper often engage figures in narrative tragedy while their ceramic work provides a counter balance with its playful levity through unique mugs waiting to be cherished as a part of your every-day routine.
