Our executive partners at Shawnee County Solid Waste just posted the official notification, and we are excited to pass the information along! Gather up those procrastinated projects and unwanted treasures because the postponed Rolling Meadows Free Dump Day has a brand new date: Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 7:00 AM to NOON (rain or shine!). 🤝💚

As Keep America Beautiful-Topeka/Shawnee County, we want to make sure your trip is a breeze! Please read the landfill's official "rules of engagement" before heading out so you don't bring items that can't be accepted:

🚫 RULES & EXCLUSIONS:
• No Tires ❌
• No Hazardous Materials ❌
• No Free Liquids ❌
• No Smoking 🚭
• No Commercial Entities 💼
• No Scavenging (It's a landfill, not a swap meet! 🛑)
• No Lollygagging (Get in, get dumped, and get gone! ⏱️)

This is your OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION that Free Dump Day 2026 has been rescheduled!

That's right, folks! On Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 7:00 AM to NOON, gather up that collection of unwanted treasures, miscellaneous junk, and procrastinated projects you've been hanging onto and bring it out to Rolling Meadows Landfill to be disposed of for FREE!

Rain or shine. Dry or muddy.

This once-a-year extravaganza was postponed earlier this year, so don't miss your opportunity!

Now, before you load up the truck, trailer, minivan, or whatever contraption you're planning to haul your worldly discards in, here are the obligatory rules of engagement:

👉 No Smoking.
👉No Hazardous Materials.
👉No Free Liquids.
👉No Tires.
👉No Scavenging. This is a landfill, not a swap meet.
👉No Commercial Entities.
👉No Lollygagging! Get in, get dumped, and get gone.

and finally, a word about the seagulls.

Please refrain from standing around gazing up at the majestic landfill seagulls circling overhead or attempting to identify the various species.

Those birds have absolutely no respect for personal property, clean windshields, or your freshly washed hair.

And BTW, You might want to wear a hat.

Just sayin'.

Keep America Beautiful - Topeka/Shawnee County is so excited for Halloween this year! We are thrilled to partner with the CRC, an incredible organization that has been serving our community for over 100 years! 🥳🎉

In honor of their amazing legacy, and to kick off the celebrations early for our very own 50th Anniversary coming up in 2027, we want to help our local kiddos have a green Halloween! 💚

🛍️ THE TREAT: We are handing out FREE reusable treat bags to the first 240 kiddos who arrive!

This Saturday, October 24th from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM

🚨 IMPORTANT VOLUNTEER UPDATE: "Slash That Trash" Cancellation 🚨

— Please read and please share this post to help us get the word out to all of our volunteers!

To our valued volunteers and community members:

We want to officially clarify that the "Slash That Trash" event originally scheduled for Saturday, October 10th, remains completely CANCELED by Keep America Beautiful - Topeka/Shawnee County.

Our board stood firm on this cancellation due to sudden logistical changes and out of deep respect for an active funeral service scheduled at our established entrance (the Southeast corner gate). We refuse to compromise the dignity of a burial service or place our volunteers in an uncomfortable position where arrivals must be screened at the gates to separate mourners from event participants.

Please Note: It has come to our attention that Historic Topeka Cemetery is utilizing our branding and altered versions of our cancellation notice to host an independent cleanup via the 10th Street gates. This is NOT a Keep America Beautiful event. Our organization is in no way affiliated with, coordinating, or insuring this independent cleanup.

We deeply value your hard work and your time, which is why we refuse to subject our volunteer base to last-minute logistical confusion. We are already hard at work partnering with new community initiatives where your efforts will be supported clearly and organized safely.

🔴 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Event Cancellation for October 10th 🔴
We are deeply sorry to announce that our upcoming community event scheduled for October 10th at the Historic Topeka Cemetery has been officially canceled due to unforeseen circumstances involving a sudden scheduling conflict at the venue. We offer our sincerest condolences to the grieving family for any potential disruptions, and we ask our community to stay tuned for an updated location for our 2027 Slash That Trash event.

To our incredible volunteers who have been pouring their hearts into planning this free event since April: we deeply appreciate your time, energy, and dedication. We made this tough executive call out of respect for your valuable time and to maintain our public trust.

Because advertising has been live since mid-August, we know people may still show up. Please help us spread the word by sharing this post to let everyone know that the event will not take place at any of the gates. Thank you to the Shawnee County community for your understanding and ongoing support. 🙏✨

Good Friday afternoon, my super-good friends!

It is a great day.
Like, a super great day.
Like a “the Solid Waste Social Media Team took the day off” type of great day!

Just popping in to check on y’all, make sure you get your weekly dose of Life-Sustaining Advice, and try to keep you out of the funny pages.

We’re going to keep this short so we can get back to catching some rays and working on the tan.

So, apparently, at least one of our fine customers received a hangtag on their door announcing a new recycling program. Naturally, the nice customer contacted the appropriate agencies, and the whole thing eventually landed in our lap.

I say nay, nay.

This is a prank.

Please disregard anything like this unless you read about it here first. Yeah, man, ain’t nobody digging through your garbage looking for moldy cheese. Ugh.

So again, if someone’s unsupervised little tax deduction places one of these on your door, simply toss it into your recycling wheelie bin.

Anywhoz, it’s Friday, and y’all have been behaving yourselves, so we’ll make this brief.

👉Don’t be flying down the dang road when it’s raining like a water hose on a flat rock cuz you know these roads don’t shed water worth a lick, and the next thing you know, you’ll be hydroplaning because your tires, manufactured by MayPop, LLC, have a metric half-ounce of tread life remaining and then those tires will start skipping across the road like flat rocks, and your ’04 Altima with the two missing hubcaps is going to earn itself another beauty mark. Yes, I’m looking at you, Mr. Jackson County Plate Silver Sedan. Slow down.
