Every mission has a beginning. Ours began with a little boy named Andrew.
Andrew was a singer, a dancer, and the "mini me" to our founder, Dr. Paul. Despite being blind in his left eye as a baby, Andrew never lost his showmanship, often performing his favorite Broadway hits.

When Andrew passed away tragically in 2004, it wasn't just a loss—it was a transformation for Dr. Paul. He moved from the world of pure science to a world of profound service.

"He basically gave me my mission this time around, which is curing blindness"

Through ADVF, we honor Andrew’s memory by giving the gift of sight to those who need it most. From children in Morocco to maintenance workers in Costa Rica, Andrew’s legacy lives on in every life we change.

We’ll never solve the problem if we only think of vision care as a charity.
There are over 2 billion people suffering from vision loss, yet the organizations meant to help them are often stuck in a cycle of unsustainable funding.
Dr. Paul points out that most foundations are forced to focus on the next grant rather than the next decade. This lack of long-term strategic planning means we aren't scratching the surface of the global blindness crisis.
That’s why he founded ADVF. We aren't just performing "charity surgeries." We are building a sustainable business hub that ensures we can consistently deliver service to those who need it most, regardless of how much is donated this month.

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty
Vision loss is an unequal burden between the developed and undeveloped world, as 90% of all blindness occurs in low and middle-income countries.
This creates a devastating cycle where people who are blind are often poorer because they cannot see the board in school to get an education or access the same opportunities as those who are sighted.
The most hopeful fact is that 90% of this vision loss is treatable.
When we cure a patient, we are doing more than restoring sight; we are giving people their lives back and restoring their independence and self-esteem
