Last Friday was a special day when we unveiled Tooele's latest Buffalo.
This beautifully painted work by artist Marcus Medina shows off interpretations of Tooele's beautiful sunsets, the Switchpoint Starburst on the head, on one side it shows the redevelopment of what is now the Harris Communtiy Village, and the other side the representations of the plants growing, sprouting and redeveloping themselves.
Mayor Winn in her short words to the assembled group revealed that this Buffalo was formerly located at Tooele Motor Group and was damaged in the semi collision incident in 2023. It was removed and repaired and became Switchpoint's Buffalo, and is itself is a metaphor for the work Switchpoint tries to do in the community, taking broken people, and helping them make changes to repair their own lives.
The Buffalo is open to be seen at Tooele Railway museum on Vine and Broadway.

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY
This thought is shared by Wiremu Bayliss, Regional Director for Switchpoint Tooele Community Resource Center who hails from New Zealand.
"My culture, like many others has many wonderful and purposeful ceremonies and opportunities for collaboration. One of which I have been able to participate in was being a part of a group chosen to row in our tribal canoe, called a waka (wah-kah).
Historically these would have been hand carved from tall native timbers over many years, and while some of those techniques still exist, more modern boat building techniques have been incorporated into the construction today.
However where this comes more into life is the teamwork that has to be present when they are put out to the water. All the rowers have to work together if the canoe is to go straight. The calls of the 'captain' of the boat have to be clear and heard above all the noise going on around them. Any water that gets into the canoe has to be bailed out as to prevent tipping or sinking. And lastly, the canoe has to travel as good against the current, as it does with the current.
If we do not work together with clients, community partners and colleagues we will find obstacles and challenges in everything we do. If leadership are not clear in the direction that things need to go in then we will have chaos and confusion. Issues that aren't dealt with weigh us down, or can tip us to an unrecoverable position, and lastly, facing down the challenges daily help us to become stronger every day, than simply going with the flow.
We cannot do it all on our own. We have to be able to work with others to help us to out goals. Whether that is case management and clients or leaders and team members, or even families. We all have to do our part to get to our objectives in life".

🤚👉 What you need to know Wednesdays 👈🫶

Did you know that the kitchen team at the Switchtpoint Tooele Community Resource Center is responsible for the production of around 300 meals for the Tooele County Meals on Wheels and food at the Tooele and Grantsville Senior Centers.
Every Monday to Friday (with the exception of holidays) the kitchen pumps out a range of foods that are nutritionally checked, and freshly prepared meals for our Community members.
What's even better is the feedback our team gets from the community about the taste and quality of the food that is received.
This is in addition to the approximately 300 meals or so a day provided from the same kitchen to the shelter residents and community members in need seeking a meal every day of the week.
If you do not already, we are keen to have people come a d volunteer to serve lunches and dinners in our kitchen so please, if you do not already have our Point App, reach out to our Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator Denise Martin on (435) 228-5151 ext 802 and she will help you link up to volunteer opportunities across our facilties (which include the food pantry).

We are going to do things a little different today and do Thankful Tuesday and show our thanks to our awesome Thrift Store manager Stacey Bice. You've seen her at the very least in the store, but like all of us who work with her daily, it is a joyous, wonderful experience. And wish her a very Happy Birthday.
Matt, our Director of Nutrition says about her "Stacey is the best at making sure everyone feels included, and she's always looking around to see how she can brighten someone's day. She helps keep the energy positive and is always a person I can go to if I need some cheer in my day," and Whitney, our Childcare Director also says "Stacey always finds fun and cool items for our center! She is always smiling and doesn't mind my shopping frenzy every time I see her! She's our Thrift Queen!"
Come on in and visit with Stacey and her awesome team at Tooele Thrift store and see our amazing specials not only at the Thrift but Switchpoint Coffee and Soda.

Did you know...Switchpoint's presence in the Tooele area isn't just the emergency shelter operating at the former elementary school on North 1st Street. The kitchen serves meals three times a day, seven days a week, for shelter residents as well as members of the community
Switchpoint also operates the Tooele Thrift Store and NOW...Switchpoint Coffee and Soda located inside the Thrift store.
Even more than that...Switchpoint also operates the Food Pantry, adjacent to the Thrift Store.
Additionally, Stepping Stones Child Care, a fully licensed Child Care center operates on the Harris Community Village campus, with the capability to operate 24/7 if need be.
Please do not hesitate to come and visit with us and see for yourself the work that we do here.
