Do you ever wish you had more friends to talk native plants with? Come hang out with people who get it!

On June 24 from 6:00–7:00 PM, we’ll gather online for our next Nature Connections event, where Botanical Belonging founder Patti Ragsdale will share tips for summer pruning and native garden care.

We’ll cover what to cut back, what to leave alone, and how to keep your garden looking its best through the growing season.

Most importantly, there will be plenty of time for questions, conversation, and geeking out with fellow native plant enthusiasts.

Register at the link below.

Botanical Belonging Members can attend for free with their membership registration code.

We hope to e-see you there!

We’ve been getting this question a lot lately - “can I just throw some seeds out now?” And we get it. The garden shops are buzzing, things are popping up everywhere, and it feels like the moment.

But here’s the thing: what you’re seeing grow right now are established plants. Growing natives from seed takes patience and spring/summer isn’t their season. Fall is when seeds go in so they can cold stratify over winter and do their thing.

So for right now? If you want to fill your beds this season, come find us at our Saturday plant sales and grab pre-grown plants. Patti’s also offers free consultations at our plant sales to help you think through your space.

This video is just a taste. Head over to YouTube for the full version where Patti thinks out loud about all things growing from seed.

Did you know Botanical Belonging founder Patti Ragsdale is also President of the Kansas Native Plant Society?

Last weekend, Patti joined the Kansas Native Plant Society board and members to explore the beautiful Red Hills of south-central Kansas. This unique ecoregion is known for its dramatic red soils, rolling terrain, mixed-grass habitat, and distinctive plant communities.

Patti has been part of KNPS since at least 2017, when she attended her first Annual Wildflower Weekend in Concordia and was immediately hooked!

“From then on, the Annual Wildflower Weekend became my vacation from native plant sales,” Patti says. “I always came home knowing a new plant!”

One of her favorite discoveries from this trip was Trailing Ratany (Krameria lanceolata) pictured in the fourth image.

Here’s to a weekend well spent in community with Kansas native plants and fellow fans!

Let’s talk about New Jersey Tea (Ceanothus americanus)!

In Part 1 of this series, Botanical Belonging founder Patti Ragsdale takes us into her gardens to introduce this beautiful native pollinator plant - and yes, the leaves can be used for tea!

Meet our new board member, Lora Pellegrin!

Lora joined the Botanical Belonging board because, as she puts it, “people deserve to love plants.”

She first knew Botanical Belonging was something special when she visited Patti’s native plant nursery for the first time, and one of her favorite memories since joining has been a leisurely spring walk with Patti and fellow board members in a Wyandotte County woodland.

Lora’s love of plants comes with a deep sense of story and place. If she were a tree, she says she’d be a pecan tree “because the pecans knew my ancestors.”

She’s also proudly Cajun, practices photography, and hopes she can help Botanical Belonging foster a deeper love for the plant communities we share this land with.

A few other Lora favorites:
🌱 Native plant: Common buttonbush (“He looks so funky all year long.”)
🐉 Plant fact: Jack-in-the-pulpit has a sister called Green Dragon
🌾 Favorite nature sound: Grass moving in the wind

We’re so grateful for the passion, curiosity, and care Lora brings to Botanical Belonging. Welcome, .borealis ! 💚

Join Botanical Belonging on June 14 from 10:00am to noon for a guided walk through a high quality remnant prairie!

Led by Patti Ragsdale, this special walk is a rare opportunity to connect with this beautiful and biodiverse ecosystem.

While Tallgrass prairie once covered 170 million acres of the U.S., now only about 4% remains, and our region has only about 1% of its original prairies. This particular prairie is a well-preserved gem that will give you a glimpse of what this magnificent landscape once was.

We would love to have you join us! Full details and registration information are at the link below:
