Niagara Frontier Officials Association

Niagara Frontier Officials Association NFOA is a group of officials in western New York state. We now officiate 5 sports and changed to our present name in 1969.

We have over 200 men and women who are independent contractors banded together for a common cause - officiating. The NFOA's predecessor was founded in 1940 in the Town of Tonawanda as a baseball umpire association called "Ken-Ton Officials Association". In 1982, we incorporated under the laws of New York State.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

As officials in softball, hockey, basketball, and football, we understand the meaning of commitment, sacrifice, and service. But today, we recognize those whose sacrifices went far beyond any playing field or arena.

Because of their courage, we are able to gather as families, communities, teammates, coaches, athletes, and officials to enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted.

This Memorial Day, we ask everyone to take a moment to remember the fallen, honor their families, and reflect on the true meaning of the day.

From all of us at the Niagara Frontier Officials Association, thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

On this Mother’s Day, the Niagara Frontier Officials Association proudly recognizes the women who help shape the future of athletics and the future of our communities.

In softball, hockey, basketball, and football, there are countless mothers and mother figures making an impact every day, from the sidelines, the stands, the scorer’s table, and the officiating crew.

We especially want to thank the moms who serve as some of our officials. Your commitment, professionalism, patience, and leadership set an example for every athlete you encounter. You are teaching lessons about respect, accountability, confidence, and integrity that extend far beyond the game itself.

To the coaches and parents who encourage young athletes through victories, setbacks, practices, and long seasons — thank you for helping guide the next generation. The young women and men participating in sports today are learning from the examples you set every day.

The future leaders, mentors, coaches, officials, and mothers of tomorrow are watching closely, and because of your influence, that future is brighter.

From everyone at the Niagara Frontier Officials Association, Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing women who continue to make a difference on and off the field, court, rink, and gridiron!

The NFOA would like to wish all of our officials, their families, coaches, and athletes across softball, hockey, basketball, and football a very Happy Easter!

This time of year offers a great opportunity to pause, reflect, and spend meaningful time with family and friends. As seasons change and new ones begin, we want to recognize the commitment, professionalism, and passion that each of you brings to your respective sport. Your efforts play an important role in creating positive and memorable experiences for everyone involved.

While the Easter Bunny is known for covering a lot of ground in a short amount of time, we’re confident even he would appreciate the dedication it takes to officiate a full schedule across multiple sports. Whether on the field, court, or ice, your consistency and focus never go unnoticed.

We hope your day is filled with relaxation, good company, and a chance to recharge. Thank you for your continued support of the NFOA and for all that you do throughout the year.

Wishing you a safe, enjoyable, and Happy Easter!

Twas the morning of Christmas, the seasons were done,
The whistles were quiet, the last games were run.
The stripes were at rest, the gear tucked away,
As the Niagara Frontier Officials began Christmas Day.

From rinks carved in ice to diamonds of clay,
From hardwood and turf where the lights brightly play,
Hockey and softball, basketball, too,
And football on Fridays when the crowds all grew.

In snowstorms and heat, through long nights and days,
You showed up prepared in so many ways.
With fairness and focus, integrity strong,
You kept every contest moving along.

So thank you, officials, for all that you do,
For judgment and hustle the whole season through.
For making the calls when pressure ran high,
And standing with confidence as moments rushed by.

To the players who gave it their heart and their all,
Who competed with passion, whether big game or small.
To the coaches who taught far more than a play,
Shaping young lives in a positive way.

And families, we thank you for patience and care,
For late nights and weekends you willingly share.
For support and for sacrifice, cheering with pride,
Standing with your officials right by their side.

Now Christmas has come, warm wishes we send,
From our association to colleague and friend.
May your holiday season be peaceful and bright
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
