🐾 Happy Adoption Day, Lykos! 🐾

Today is one of those days that reminds us exactly why Rescue Buffalo exists.

Back in November 2025, Lykos’ owner left home to pick up Thanksgiving dinner for herself and her daughter. Tragically, she was involved in a serious car accident that left her hospitalized for weeks with significant injuries.

Kind neighbors stepped in to help care for Lykos by feeding him, letting him outside, and making sure he wasn’t alone. As winter weather arrived, icy roads and snow-covered sidewalks made it increasingly difficult for them to continue providing daily care.

Our good friend, Salisbury Rick, North Tonawanda Dog Control Officer, reached out knowing Rescue Buffalo would do everything possible to help without question. After speaking with Lykos’ owner and receiving her consent, we quickly arranged to bring Lykos into a temporary foster home so he would be safe, cared for, and no longer dependent on neighbors trying to navigate dangerous winter conditions.

Over the following months, we stayed in contact with his owner whenever possible, but responses were limited and vague.

Unfortunately, there was little certainty regarding her recovery timeline. After being discharged from the hospital, she would require transfer to a long-term rehabilitation facility and ultimately made the heartbreaking decision to surrender Lykos so he could have the stability and care he deserved.

Once in rescue, it became clear that Lykos had significant medical needs. His dental disease was severe, and despite our hopes of saving as many teeth as possible, extensive treatment was necessary. Rescue Buffalo invested more than $3,000 in veterinary care, including treatment for advanced periodontal disease and 16 tooth extractions to relieve his pain and improve his quality of life.

And then something wonderful happened.

His foster family fell completely in love.

Today, we officially finalized Lykos’ adoption with the family that opened their home and hearts to him. We could not be happier for Lykos and the people who chose to make him a permanent part of their family.

❤️ Stories like Lykos’ are only possible because of our supporters.

Rescue Buffalo is proud to be the only rescue exclusively dedicated to helping local dogs right here in Western New York. When local dogs need help—whether due to medical emergencies, owner hardships, shelter overcrowding, or unexpected life circumstances—we step in.

But we can’t do it alone.

We currently have an outstanding veterinary balance of more than $3,000, and we are asking our community to help us continue saving dogs just like Lykos. Every donation, share, fundraiser purchase, and word of encouragement helps us be there for the next local dog in need.

Today, we celebrate Lykos, his incredible foster-turned-adoptive family, the neighbors who cared for him when his owner couldn’t, and every supporter who made this happy ending possible.

Congratulations, Lykos. Your forever home was worth the wait. ❤️🏡🐾

The day we met VS the day we saved your little life 💟

Meet Lucille. A local 2 year old pup who suffered more than any dog should in such a short amount of time.

She found herself in the shelter , abandoned, broken heart, no trust, fear riddled , she was terrified and showing behaviors Animal Control questioned. They knew to call us , because we would give her a fair chance.

On Friday our President went to meet another dog in the shelter ( who we will post tomorrow ) and she was asked to meet this “spicy” aggressive chihuahua.

Upon entering the kennel ward, being led by a male ACO, Lucille retracted to the tightest corner of her kennel, she began to shake and growl. It was very obvious she had endured trauma from a male in her past. A little spice, but she’s overall so nice !

After a few minutes of talking to her, she approached our President , they had quite the lengthy conversation and quickly Lucille formed a bond.

We just knew we couldn’t leave her on the shelter any longer. So today, we pulled her!

If you can please donate to her care , she needs to be spayed . She loves a ball & a comfy bed.
