šŸšØ OUR LOCAL DOGS NEED FOSTERS. šŸšØ

Our shelters are full. Our rescues are full. And the calls for help arenā€™t slowing down.

Buffalo Animal Shelter recently reported taking in 121 dogs and 46 cats in just FOUR WEEKS. Those numbers should be a wake-up call for all of us.

At Rescue Buffalo, our mission is LOCAL. We focus on dogs right here in Western New York ā€” dogs coming from our municipal shelters, local owner surrenders, and families in our own community who have nowhere else to turn.

This is not the only shelter that needs us. West Seneca Dog Control , Niagara SPCA also need our help to gets dogs our of their kennels and into our fosters homes!

But we cannot say YES to another dog without somewhere safe for that dog to go.

Thatā€™s where fosters come in. šŸ¾

Fostering doesnā€™t just give a dog a temporary home. It opens a kennel. It gives another dog a chance. It gives overwhelmed local shelters another option when theyā€™re running out of space.

We provide the support and supplies.
You provide the safe place and the love.

You donā€™t have to foster forever. You just have to help one dog at a time.

ā¤ļø Every foster home allows us to say YES to another dog in need.

PLEASE SHARE ā€” even if you canā€™t foster, someone on your friends list might be the home weā€™re looking for.

šŸ’œFOSTER SECUREDšŸ’œ

It breaks our hearts to say this, but the Foster backed out on Twiggy šŸ’”

So here she stays in the dog shelter until we can find a foster for her. This 8 year-old hound has been through so much recently, and she needs a comfy couch to mourn the unexpected loss of her owner.

Twiggy is great with cats, absolutely no dogs , and kids unknown so we urge no kids under 15 years old.

If you can foster please send us a message , if your rescue has an open foster she can be transferred! šŸ«¶šŸ¼

October is already one of our favorite months because itā€™s Pit Bull Awareness Month ā€” but this year, itā€™s even more special. šŸ§”šŸ¾

We are SO excited to announce that Rescue Buffalo is partnering with local author Megan Ross and her childrenā€™s book, ā€œThe ABCs of Pitties,ā€ for the entire month of October!

If you know Rescue Buffalo, you know just how close pit bullā€“type dogs are to our hearts. They are some of the dogs we advocate hardest for, love fiercely, and work every day to help people see beyond the stereotypes that have followed them for far too long.

Thatā€™s why this partnership means so much to us.

ā€œThe ABCs of Pittiesā€ introduces children and families to pitties in a positive, loving way ā€” showing these dogs living the lives they deserve: loved, safe, comfortable, and part of a family. Teaching kindness, compassion, and responsible perspectives about dogs starts young, and we absolutely love what Megan has created. ā¤ļø

And the best part?

Throughout October, 30% of the profits from sales of ā€œThe ABCs of Pittiesā€ will be donated directly to Rescue Buffalo to help LOCAL dogs in need! šŸ¶

Whether youā€™re adding it to your own childā€™s bookshelf, purchasing one for a classroom, giving it as a gift, or simply looking for a way to support pit bull advocacy AND local rescue dogs, this is such a special way to do both.

A huge thank you to Megan Ross for choosing Rescue Buffalo as her October rescue partner and for using her work to help change the conversation surrounding a breed we love so much.

Good books. Good dogs. A great cause. šŸ§”šŸ¾

Happy Pit Bull Awareness Month from all of us at Rescue Buffalo!

šŸ¾ OCTOBER IS NATIONAL PIT BULL AWARENESS MONTH! šŸ¾ ..
itā€™s our FAVORITE MONTH!!!

A whole month dedicated to celebrating, educating, advocating and showing some love to one of the most misunderstood groups of dogs. ā¤ļø

As volunteers , rescuers, shelter workers and Pit Bull lovers, we know that there is SO much more to these dogs than the stereotypes surrounding them.

So letā€™s kick off October with some PIT BULL FUN FACTS!

šŸ¾ ā€œPit Bullā€ isnā€™t always one specific breed.
People commonly use the term ā€œpit bullā€ to describe several breeds and mixes with similar physical characteristics. The American Pit Bull Terrier, however, is an actual recognized breed through the United Kennel Club.

šŸ¾ They have some serious athletic ability.
The American Pit Bull Terrier was developed to be powerful AND athleticā€”not simply big and muscular. Today, you can find them participating in agility, obedience, rally, tracking, dock jumping, lure coursing, weight pull and other dog sports.

šŸ¾ They have working-dog roots.
After coming to America, their ancestors werenā€™t just companions. They were used by farmers and ranchers for jobs including working livestock and hunting.

šŸ¾ The very first dog registered with the United Kennel Club was a Pit Bull!
When the UKC was established in 1898, registration #1 went to founder C.Z. Bennettā€™s American Pit Bull Terrier, Bennettā€™s Ring.

šŸ¾ They can be incredibly enthusiastic dogs.
The official UKC breed standard describes the American Pit Bull Terrier as confident, eager to please and having a ā€œzest for life.ā€ If youā€™ve ever lived with one, the enthusiasm probably isnā€™t news to you. šŸ˜‚

šŸ¾ They are much more than a big blocky head.
A correctly built American Pit Bull Terrier is actually a medium-sized, balanced and agile dog. Bigger, wider and heavier doesnā€™t automatically mean ā€œmore Pit Bull.ā€

šŸ¾ Their history isnā€™t perfectā€”and we donā€™t have to pretend it is.
Bull-and-terrier dogs have an undeniable history involving sports and dog fighting. But their history also includes generations of working alongside people as farm dogs, working dogs, sporting dogs and companions.

Most importantly, a dogā€™s breed is only one piece of the puzzle.

Genetics matter.
Early development matters.
Socialization matters.
Training matters.
Environment matters.
And the individual dog standing in front of you matters.

National Pit Bull Awareness Month isnā€™t about pretending every Pit Bull is perfect.

Itā€™s about giving these dogs the same thing every dog deserves:

To be evaluated as an individualā€”not sentenced by a stereotype. šŸ–¤

Throughout October, letā€™s educate, advocate, train responsibly and celebrate the incredible dogs behind the label.

Happy National Pit Bull Awareness Month! šŸ¾

A HUGE thank you to Carpe Diem Designs, Inc.! ā¤ļøšŸ¾

We truly cannot express how grateful we are for you stepping up to support us during a time when we needed it most.

Supporting our organization is one thingā€”but taking the time to completely redesign our banner and absolutely blowing it out of the park is another.

You took our mission, our dogs, and what Rescue Buffalo stands for and turned it into something that immediately grabs your attention and tells our story. Seeing ā€œOUR LOCAL DOGS NEED YOU!ā€ displayed so proudly means more to us than you probably realize!!!

As a small, local rescue, community support is what allows us to continue showing up for Western New York dogs.

Every foster, volunteer, donation, adoption, share, partnershipā€”and every business willing to stand behind our missionā€”helps us keep going.

Carpe Diem Designs, thank you for believing in what we do, for generously stepping up when we needed support, and for putting so much care and talent into this incredible redesign. We are beyond grateful to have businesses in our community that donā€™t just say they support local rescueā€”they show it.

You absolutely knocked this one out of the park. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

From all of us at Rescue Buffaloā€”and especially the local dogs whose lives are changed because people choose to support our missionā€”THANK YOU!!

šŸ’œFOSTER SECUREDšŸ’œ

This is Twiggy. She is an 8 year old hound mix who just lost her owner suddenly.

Twiggy is currently safe in a shelter but this is no place for a senior pup to mourn the loss of her owner.

Twiggy is great with cats, absolutely no dogs , and kids unknown so we urge no kids under 15 years old.

If you can foster please send us a message , if your rescue has an open foster she can be transferred! šŸ«¶šŸ¼
