Buffalo Pug & Small Breed Rescue, Inc. Buffalo Pug & Small Breed Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 that is registered through NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets.

We accept all breeds of dogs from abuse situations, surrenders, breeders and kill-shelters. *Please Note* Our phone is an informational line only. Being an all volunteer organization, there is no one available to answer the amount of calls we would receive. It is much easier for our volunteers to correspond with you via e-mail or Facebook Private Message. Your wait time for a response will be greatly reduced using these methods. Our Sunday spotlight is on Veyda🩷. She is a 6-year-old Mini Bernedoodle and a retired puppy mill mama who is now ready to discover what life is really supposed to be like.

Veyda was recently adopted out but returned shortly after because of no fault of her own. Her home was in the city and she didn't like it. The loud noises scared her and all she wanted was a quiet place with a large fenced-in yard so she could run around.

Veyda would do best in a home with at least one confident, friendly canine companion who can help show her the ropes and teach her what being a carefree dog is all about. She would also do well with older, respectful children.

Veyda Is still learning to trust people, so she will need a patient family that can give her the time she needs to fully blossom into the perfect dog we know she will become.

If you feel you can give Veyda the perfect home, fill out an application and somebody will be in touch to set up a meet and greet!

🐾 Rumi’s Update — 9 Days in Rescue! ❤️

Rumi has been in rescue for 9 days now, and she’s slowly learning what the good life is all about! 🥰

When it comes to her weight gain, slow and steady is the way to go. Too much food, too quickly, can lead to refeeding syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition. We have all the time in the world to help her heal properly, following our veterinarian’s guidance every step of the way. ❤️

Rumi is beginning to work on her potty training and learning to relax a little more each day. She still cowers at times, but we’re seeing less of that behavior than before, and we consider that a win! Every little step forward matters. 🐾

She has also attached herself to her amazing foster mom, who is showing her what love, patience, and security feel like. Rumi is slowly learning that humans and life really aren’t so scary after all. We know she has a long road ahead, but she’s finally on the right path, surrounded by people who care about her.

We’ll continue to keep Rumi’s village updated as she makes progress. Thank you to everyone who has reached out, supported her, and cheered her on. She has so many people rooting for her! ❤️

Regarding Rumi’s previous owner: The appropriate authorities have been notified, and the evidence available to us has been provided to them. We cannot comment further on that part of Rumi’s story. We feel it is best to allow the proper channels to handle the matter.

For now, our focus is on Rumi, her healing, and helping her discover the happy, healthy life she deserves. ❤️🐾

Rescue isn’t just the happy posts of dogs we help find forever homes for. There is a painful side of rescue that we don’t often share publicly. The neglect, the suffering, and the quiet emptiness left behind when a dog has been failed by the people who were supposed to love and protect them.

This is Rumi’s story, and it’s a difficult one to hear:
She was purchased four years ago from a breeder. This week, her ex-breeder received a call stating the family no longer wanted her. He reached out to us in hopes that we could get her help right away.
The owners were threatening to give her to the first person that wanted her. Knowing she was not spayed, we knew what her life would be like if this were to happen. They continued by complaining that she kept defecating in her crate for no reason. Then later in the call they admitted they kept her crated 24/7. They continued to say that even when they “slap her around” for doing it, she does it again. Then a terrible admission:
We were told they have been withholding food from her to lessen waste! This is when we knew she needed our immediate help! Calls between rescue partners came together to find who was the closest to get her out ASAP. Rescues working together is what got her to safety so quickly 🐾
What we didn’t expect was the condition she would arrive in. Nails overgrown, sores on her legs and back, eyes crusted over, an old cherry eye that was left untreated, and severely underweight. Not to mention how badly she cowers when she thinks she has done something wrong 💔
She was being starved by the same humans that promised her a happy, loving life.

The story her eyes told us was heart wrenching- she had lost faith in the same humans that had promised to love her unconditionally four years prior.

She deserves better- and we are here to make sure she gets just that.

She will be under our vet’s care for some time while her body, heart and soul heal. Her foster mom is committed to showing her that not all humans are bad.

We often say it’s takes a village to save some of the dogs we take in to rescue. Rumi is one of those dogs that needs a village right now. We may post a wishlist for her needs soon. However, currently, we are asking if our villagers can spare any funds to go towards her on-going vet care - no amount is too small. We've included a snapshot of her recent vet bill And she will need follow-up appointments as well as her spay. Thank you all for your consideration 💜
