This is the God's Honest Truth:

One of the most amazing things about dogs is how deeply they understand us without ever speaking a single word. They learn our routines, recognize our moods, and somehow always know when we need comfort the most. A look, a tail wag, or simply sitting beside us can say more than an entire conversation with another person. The bond between a dog and their human is built on trust, loyalty, and love that does not need explaining. It is the kind of connection that grows stronger in the quiet everyday moments. Once you have experienced that bond with a dog, it stays in your heart forever.

UPDATE:
Nikko is still available for adoption here at Shiba Rescue of New Jersey.
According to foster mom Cynthia, she says that Nikko is a great Shiba Boy who is extremely smart besides very handsome.
Nikko loves going outside in the fenced in yard where he runs, plays and does his zoomies.
He also enjoys going for his walks.
Cynthia said that it would be a major plus if Nikko did have a fenced in yard since he LOVES it so much!
Nikko may be somewhat selective of some men.
This likely is something from his past.
Cynthia said Nikko saw some guys playing basketball and he was fine with them.
I suppose Nikko picks and chooses which is understandable.

I have the original post of Nikko below but I wanted to give everyone an update about him.
Cynthia has come to love Nikko very much and thought about being a "Foster Fail" but she said if she did then she could no longer foster for us here at Shiba Rescue and New Jersey and she really loves fostering for us.

If you can open your heart and home to Nikko, you won't be disappointed.
Please go to www.shibarescuenj.org and fill out an Adoption Application for him.
This gorgeous boy is waiting for YOU!

Welcome Nikko to Shiba Rescue of New Jersey
On May 28, 2026
Nikko is a very handsome Black and Tan male Shiba who was surrendered to our Rescue.
He is 5 years old, neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines.
The following is the write up that Nikko's owner provided to me:
Nikko was rescued on January 13th, 2025 from Homeward Bound in South Jersey. He is an amazing, smart dog. Nikko likes his toys especially the ones that squeak loud.. lol… He Loves belly rubs and enjoys being outdoors. Nikko is house trained and never had an accident in the house. He has a great routine. He eats twice a day, morning and dinner. Of course he loves his treats. He goes for 4 walks a day as we live in an over 55 development and cannot have a fenced yard. His bedtime is pretty much whatever your bedtime is. He goes to doggie daycare twice weekly to give him stimulation with other people . My Husband and I are recently retired and wanting to travel therefore looking for a good home with a fenced in yard.
Nikko is being fostered by our dear friend and volunteer Cynthia.
Cynthia will be assessing Nikko so we can determine what home will be best suited for his needs.
From what I was told, Nikko may be selective with some dogs.
We don't know about cats.
We don't know about children.
Nikko may prefer a female owner as opposed to a male but we will see how that goes on his assessment.
A home with a secured fenced in yard would be nice for Nikko since he likes to run and do zoomies.
If you are interested in adopting Nikko please go to www.shibarescuenj.org and fill out an Adoption Application.

You never realize how deeply a dog becomes part of your life until they are suddenly gone. Their presence fills your home with comfort, love, and familiarity in ways words cannot fully explain. When the time comes to say goodbye, it feels like your world changes overnight. Strength suddenly feels very small compared to that kind of heartbreak.
