Shiba Inu Rescue New Jersey We have close ties to other independent Shiba Rescues across the US and Canada and work with many all breed rescues as well.

Shiba Rescue of New Jersey (SRNJ) is a small group of dedicated families living in Ocean County NJ who have opened their hearts and homes to neglected, unwanted and displaced Shibas. We are one of only three active Shiba Rescue Organization on the East Coast of the US and have fostered and re-homed over 300 Shibas, Jindos and Shiba mixes over the years.

Foster needed for 1-1/2 year old female Shiba. She is not doing well in a city environment and would be better off in a more suburban environment with a yard and a quiet adult home.
The owner provided the following bio/write up:

"Yoyo, 1.5 year old red Shiba Inu girl. She weighs ~25lbs, is spayed and healthy with no medical concerns.

Personality: she's sweet, affectionate and super playful. She loves fetch and the flirt pole, follows you around the house, and enjoys a good brushing session. She's smart and picks up new commands fast, and she’s crate-trained. She loves playing with other dogs, especially smaller high-energy ones, and does fine with cats but can chase them sometimes.

Why I'm rehoming her: she has a ton of energy, more than our calm household can keep up with, and I want her to be somewhere that matches her energy. She's also a bit sensitive to sudden loud noises and can get barky when she’s scared, so she'd really benefit from someone with the time to keep working on that with her. City life stimulation adds to it too, so a quieter area with some yard space would be ideal. It wasn't an easy decision, and I'm working with her breeder to make sure she ends up in the right home."

If you’ve ever loved a dog, you know this feeling too well. They come into our lives and change everything - they fill our homes with laughter, comfort, and loyalty so deep it’s hard to describe. And when it’s time to say goodbye, it feels like your heart breaks in a way that never fully heals. 💜😍🌈

Dogs don’t live nearly long enough, but in their short time, they give us a lifetime of love. Every wag, every cuddle, every look that says “you’re my person” stays with us forever. Losing them isn’t just losing a pet - it’s losing a best friend, a piece of your heart, and the one soul that loved you without conditions.
If you’re missing your dog tonight, remember - love doesn’t end. They may have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, but they’re still with you in spirit, waiting patiently, just like they always did.

I saved our spot on the Rainbow Bridge, Mom.
You know how I always did that?
How I’d save you a place on the couch?
How I’d wait by the door for you?
I’m doing the same thing here.
I found the perfect spot.
It has soft grass and warm sunshine.
I can see far down the bridge from here.
And I sit here every day.
Waiting for you.
Mom, I’m okay now.
I promise.
My body doesn’t hurt anymore.
I can run fast again.
I can play without getting tired.
But most of the time, I just sit in our spot.
Watching. Waiting.
Sometimes other dogs come by.
“Come play with us!” they say.
And I do, for a little bit.
But then I come back.
Back to our spot.
Because what if you come and I’m not here?
I don’t want to miss you, Mom.
I know you’re sad down there.
I know you cry for me.
I wish I could hug you one more time.
But Mom, please don’t stay sad forever.
I want you to be happy.
I want you to laugh again.
I want you to live a good life.
Take your time, Mom.
There’s no rush.
I’ll be right here.
In our spot.
Waiting as long as it takes.
And when you finally come across that bridge,
I’ll see you.
My tail will start wagging.
My whole body will shake with happiness.
And I’ll run to you so fast.
Faster than I ever ran before.
Then we’ll walk together to our spot.
The spot I saved for us.
And we’ll never be apart again.
So don’t worry about me, Mom.

We posted help for Waffles the 14 year old male whose owner was looking to surrender him a few days.
Amazingly, we have a volunteer in Connecticut that has stepped up to foster Waffles.
Suzu Mariko, our long-time friend has offered to take this senior boy in and give him a warm place to land.
We can't thank Suzu enough for stepping up and helping Waffles at a dire time.

Welcome Kikyo (Kiki-o) to Shiba Rescue of New Jersey.
On Oct. 30, 2026

Kikyo is a female senior Shiba (estimated to be about 10 yrs. old) who was surrendered to Providence Rhode Island Animal Shelter severely neglected and in really rough shape.
She has multiple medical conditions that will require significant medical attention from skin issues, heart, ears, and joint issues.

Kikyo is being fostered in Rhode Island by Sarah and Ricky Barrette.
We know she will be getting great care with them.
We can ALWAYS count on Sarah & Ricky when we pull dogs in New England.
They're Our Heroes.

Sarah Linden Barrette has mentioned to us that Kikyo is showing signs of being a sweet and good natured girl despite her physical ailments. And she looks for human attention.

We know Kikyo's care is going to be expensive so we are reaching out for any help we can get from the Shiba community.

Day 3 with Hachi who we pulled with his sister earlier this week.
This is a phenomenal very young Shiba with tons of energy.
He loves people and probably other dogs but we can't try testing since he has kennel cough.
We have his neuter scheduled for early Dec.
If you're in the Ocean County NJ area and looking to foster or foster to adopt, let us know.
You will need to bring him in for his neuter in Brick Township, NJ.
