Congratulations on your retirement Detective Carey! Wishing you all happiness in your retirement!
Please join us in congratulating Detective James Carey on his retirement from the Toms River Police Department.
Detective Carey began his career with the Seaside Park Police Department as a SLEO 1 in 1996. He graduated the Ocean County Police Academy in 1997 and worked as a SLEO II before being hired as a full time patrolman in 1998.
In June of 2000, he was hired by the then Dover Township Police Department. During his patrol career, he served as a Field Training Officer and as a member of the Emergency Services Unit.
He was promoted to Detective in November of 2014. During his time in the Detective Bureau, he worked in Burglary West and served as a Crisis Negotiator.
With the retirement of Detective Carey, as of August 1st the Toms River Police Department will now be down to 147 officers, that is 16 officers fewer than our full staffing of 163 officers that we had in January of 2024.
We look forward to introducing you to our newest officer if and when they are hired. We are anxious to return our department to its full capacity of 163 officers as soon as possible to ensure our continued efficient service to the community we so proudly serve.
We here at PBA Local 137 again would like to congratulate Detective Carey on his retirement, we wish him the best in his new endeavors, he will be greatly missed.
